Posted by 47dude on April 15, 2004, at 3:15:43

Been on 75mg Effexor and switching to Wellbutrin.
Anybody know if its a smooth process?
Will I need to taper off the fxr?....thanks.

I've been on WB for 3 weeks now and prior to that, I was on Effexor. I had a rough time going from Effexor to WB. My doc didn't suggest or tell me to taper from one drug to another. So when I took WB, I had the worst headaches (and still do from time to time). By day #5 on WB, I was in bed all day due to the throbbing, annoying headaches ALL DAY!! I don't know if WB is doing anything for me, but it sure is better than feeling sleepy and sluggish all day as I felt while on Effexor, Lexapro and Paxil (not all at one time). Wellbutrin seems to be okay, but not the "happy-pill" like Effexor, Lex and Pax.
Keep posting and let us know how you're doing!!!

I had been on 150mg of effexor xr but could not tolerate it (I felt great but my blood pressure went through the roof). Now I am on BOTH exxefor at 75mg and wellbutrin 300mg now. It was no problem for me to reduce the effexor. The wb makes me kind of jumpy, but it is getting better (has been 3 weeks). I don't feel as "happy", or more accurately, not as depressed, on this combo but it's too eary to tell.

As you can see, everyone's responses to medications are different!

I want to ask my doc if I can do this combo exactly as you have it. Did your pdoc have any reservation about this? I really don't like SSRIs, but I feel in need at the moment. I am on WB 300.

Is there anyone else on this combo??

She had no reservations whatsoever about the wellbutrin and effexor together - in my case they seem to work WELL together. I also have an rx for ambien because I am still twiching around when I'm supposed to be sleeping.

Good luck!

Hey, PsychoSage...I am currently taking 150 Wellby and 75 Effexor...also Lamictal. No problems with the mixing of the ADs...in fact, they're the only ones I've been able to tolerate that have shown an inkling of effect. I must take them concomitantly, however...on their own they don't do squat. E and W are a good combination...two of my docs had suggested both to me. The W kicks the Effexor into gear.

I am happy to hear of this combo!

do you guys feel any sluggishness? the last time i did a serotonergic drug was over a year ago with my sweet old companion Zoloft. I hate it.

I just want a little modest boost with effexor. I tried effexor {immediate and XR} once over 4 years ago, but the trial was not sustained long enough.

i just got ambien myself- do you take the full 10mg? i have 10mg, and I tried half of it for the first time last night.

I am not sluggish but get a wicked case of the yawns about 3pm.

I take the full 10mg of ambien to fall asleep. That is the only side effect of meds that I really regret. I used to love my sleepytime and now it does not seem quite right that I have to take a pill for some shuteye.

The Wellbutrin part of the equation has always been energizing for me. Effexor has had no influence over my energy levels one way or another.
