I am going through a nasty episode (fortunally not major) and my meds are not helping me. My pdoc and I discussed going off all my meds and starting over. I want it done fast because I am miserable, it could take weeks to do it out patient.
I swear by lamictal and my pdoc seems to think that it is causing mixed states. I do know it helps with mania and i don't seem to go through such a bad depression since i've been on it.
I am scared about going off all the meds and starting over. She started a new one (lithium) a few days ago. It is at low levels (450 mg) and we dropped a mood stabilizer. I am worried about all the antipsychotics I am on and comming off them ( 4 mg of risperdal ad 30 mg of abilify). I had some psychoses and we had to add more antipsychotics and i am afraid I will start hearing things again (awful things).
My question, should I do this fast and go into the hospital and get it over with so I can start feeling better or do it outpatient with ths softer approach and hope I feel better without the hospital.
Thank you for your input

If it is absolutely neccesary that it be done in this mannor, I personally would preffer off quickly under medical supervision, at least then you are being monitored. If you go off slowly on your own then you are more likely to start believing the psychotic delusions.
Just my idea, of course cold turkey has its drawbacks too.

I like the hospital solution too. It's a much more responsible and safer one *just in case*...also, if you really feel that a speedy approach might help you in the long run, go with that intuition.
Good luck hundredhugs and let me/us know!
*hug* back :)

This is a choice for you. Only you know if you can tolerate inpatient or out patient. p.s. lithium is the best med. I personally have been on. terrics
