chromium helps you to regulate your blood sugar, which can have an effect on mood. If your blood sugar is low, your body responds with adrenaline and testosterone surges (in women too) - this can lead to anxiety. So...chromium could indirectly help someone with anxiety relax (if blood sugar is an underlying problem). I wouldn’t take much more than the recommended dosage though – high doses can be bad for you.
Don’t know anything about valarium..
Good luck!

I take chromium, on the advice of my pdoc, based on some small studies showing some antidepressant effects. The studies were done on chromium picolinate, and I started on that, but later on I read some links that gave me cause for concern about the picolinate form, so I switched to chromium polynicotinate, which is basically niacin-bound chromium. I can't say that the chromium in either form produced dramatic results but when I first added it to my cocktail, it seemed to add some improvement. I am assuming that it still continues to add value to my overall cocktail.

Chromium is a mineral, and Jack was right about it's ability to stabilize blood sugar. We have enough to deal with that we don't need blood sugar ups and downs mixed in and confusing issues. I think it is really quite safe to take with meds, in moderation of course.

Valarian root is found in with the herbal remedies in the store. It is primarily used to safely promote sleep. If you can get past the smell, it may help you. People here seem to have mixed results with it. It helps some people and doesn't help others. I don't think there is any concern about interacting with drugs.

Check out Psycho-Babble Alternative. They could really help you with this.

Good luck!
