I am trying to get all the info and feedback I can get from people using Topamax. I am looking to use it for mood stabilizing, keep me from getting migraines, and hopefully lose some weight in the process. I do have high blood pressure though and am wondering if that will be a factor. So I go to see my shrink on Friday and want to ask him about maybe going on this so any feedback anyone can give me about their experiences with it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you are taking it with any antidepressants, does it interfere or call problems?
Thanks to anyone who listens and answers me.

I just quit topomax because it was completely screwing up my skin in about a billion ways (I'm starting to understand that is pretty typical), and my doctor had me on it pretty much only because I liked the weight loss and he figured it couldn't hurt, but it didn't actually do me any good in the mood stabilization department--that's what the latest news on it is saying too. It doen't work for most people. Made me lose words, see stars.....it was poison to me, really , but I stuck with it for 6 montha because I wanted the weight loss, which stopped working anyway (I mean, the appetite suppressant part of it). I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone, But I didn't get any headaches while I was on it!
Good luck> I am trying to get all the info and feedback I can get from people using Topamax. Looks like I will be going off Topa too. It just hasn't done it's job in the mood stabilization department for me, and the side effects are just not worth it. Even the weight loss tapers off and just stops (I can't speak for everyone, though). BUT, I do hear it works well for migraines? So, I guess you'll just have to balance out the pros and cons of this med....
Good luck with your decision!

Count me as another off Topamax...
It didn't really do that much for mood stabilization for me. Seroquel is working better. Topamax also didn't help with sleep and the cognitive side effects were not that bad, but I need to be able to say the right words at the right time... It didn't really help with the weight I'd gained on Remeron.

I tried Topamax also for migraines. The drug made me 'stupid' and did not help at all. I was on 50 mgs I believe, and tried up to 100 mgs. This drug is not a good one for many of us with migraines and depression/anxiety. I just go with various triptans after trying a lot of 'preventatives' which never worked for me. I'd be wary to Topamax. It was a big disappointment to me, personally. Good luck whatever you do.

I've been taking Topamax, 50 mg twice daily for about 5 months, and couldn't be happier with it. I've lost 25 pounds, and my migraines' frequency & severity is nearly half what it was when I used Elavil. Topamax has its drawbacks, certainly, and it's not for everyone, but it's been a miracle drug for me. I have hypothyroidism, but no other significant health problems, and my doc is monitoring my bloodwork at 4-month intervals, just to be sure things are going well, and so far, everything's great. Best of luck to you.
