Can you go through withdrawal of a drug if you've only taken 3 doses of it? I started taking 5 mg of Prozac every other day last week. I only took 3 doses before stopping on Monday. For the last few days, I've felt horrible. I have a sinus infection but it feels like it's more than just that. I gues it could be three things that are making me feel sick then:
sinus infection
Prozac withdrawal
Prozac side effects
I don't know which is contributing more, though, and am not really sure what to do.

Hi Civ,
Based on what you've said, it sounds like you're still experiencing side effects from the Prozac. Prozac stays in your system for a very long time after you stop taking it - at least a week (that is why people very rarely go through withdraw when they quit Prozac.)
Check with your pdoc if you're still feeling off in a week. Do you mind if I ask what you were taking it for and why you decided to quit?

Hey to you too :)
I called my pdoc this evening. He pretty much said what you did. It can't be withdrawal because it's still in my system. It's probably side effects from starting the med, which is pretty scary considering I was only taking 5 mg. What am I taking it for? Why did I quit?
I recently tapered off Paxil and did so very successfully after using liquid suspension for about 3 weeks. Then I would say about 10 days ago, maybe a few days after I'd been off the Paxil entirely, I started feeling pretty sad again and during my appointment with the pdoc (he does talk therapy with me too) asked for some Prozac. So I started that but felt weird after like the second dose. So as I said, I stopped taking it on Monday. I've been careless with meds and that's why I've felt really poorly the last two days: bad anxiety, palpitations, confusion, chills, etc. And, of course, it doesn't help that I have a sinus infection.
That's the summary. Rough stuff. I didn't have this type of reaction when I started Paxil for the first time. I guess every drug is different.
This is the end of the thread.
