Your are not alone, snapper. I also had severe back pain and muscle weakness, headaches, confusion... It was difficult for me to walk (coordinate the motion of my feet), unsteadyness, clumsiness.. Sometimes I could not feel my arms, legs. They felt totally numb.
I was soooo slow on this drug at the beginning. But this side effects subsided within a month or so.
And now I am for aprox. 6 month on it, and am not sure if this drug is doing much good at all. I tried to taper off, but I immediatley got worse. Seems this drug is doing more good, than I am aware of, or this is "just" a temporary worsening (withdrawal). whateverRoland

I can relate. I tried this drug 2 different times and couldn't last more than a week or two. The first time, I only got up to 50mg and had headaches and a real hard time getting out of bed after sleeping for at least 10 hours. A couple of years later I tried again, at only 25mg, my skin itched a lot and I had insomnia. I'm an athlete and these symptoms were unacceptable to me. I did not want to wait weeks or months to see if it would get better.

I started on Lamictal 25mg with my dose being raised 25mg every two weeks. I am now at a dose of 200mg. With each dose increase I noticed some anxiety, some agitation and muscle aches. They did go away after a few days on each dose. As I am tapering off of Depakote it is hard to say whether or not the Lamictal is helping my BP2 symptoms. I need to wait until I am off of the Depakote and on the Lamictal by itself for a few weeks. Should be interesting to see.

What dosage are you on now? I think it takes a while to get to theraputic dosage but many PDocs seem to think this is great drug for BII. I glad your side effects were tolerable and you may have to wait 'till your on 175-200mg before you see the benefit. I just couldn't tolerate the six weeks it would have taken me to get at that dose. I hope Lamictal works well for you.

I'm on my sixth week of Lamictal, and wonder if anyone else has experienced migratory joint and muscle pain. My shoulders are very sore, and I've had headaches, but overall, I like this drug.
However, in the past four days, my hands have ached (in unusual places) - almost like I'd envision tendonitis. My wrist has started aching also, and I've had some pain in my feet, as well as one knee.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it transient, and has it been migratory for you?

That is so strange you mention that because I had what felt like carpal tunnel for about a week and 1/2. It's finally going away. I've been on Lamictal for about 5 weeks now. I just went up to 100 and it seemed to subside...but then I became really agitated. I'm backing down to about 75 now. Weird. I wonder if the joint pain is related?

>According to the research I did, only 2% in the study experienced arthralgia or muscular aches.... of course my pdoc's reaction is to go see my regular doc...just too odd this happened after I started the drug. Otherwise, I like it much more than lithium!

hey all, I just finally got my pdoc to dc my lamictal I had to call 3 times to let his nurse know that I felt It was making me feel like a decrepit old man with aches and pains from hell...goofy insomnia related issues and increased anxiety which in turn made it harder to sleep etc...I pointed out that I thought It was giving me some benefit and asked to go down to just 100 mg or even 150mg to see if I could still benefit me w/o neg. s/e's and they called back and said no just take 100mg for 5 days then 50mg for 5 days then D/C it. IT IS SOOO FRUSTRATING THAT WE KNOW OUR OWN BODIES BETTER THAN THESE DOC'S AND WE JUST CAN'T SEEM TO FIND A MIDDLE GROUND! Anyhow I hope that it was not giving me more benefit than I realized and maybe the s/e's would have subsided in time- but you know my depression and anxiety already cause me enough bodily symptoms and it's hard to differentiate what the illness is and what is S/e's. any body else feel this way?
