Hi,
I started Effexor XR at 37.5 mg. I'm supposed to take it for 7 days, then switch to 75 mg. I've already been taking it for 5 days and was wondering if I can go up to 75 mg. on day 6. Should this be okay?

Thats no problem as long as you aren't experiencing any intolerable side effects.

Call me overly cautious, but I am never comfortable increasing dosage faster than what the doctor instructs. In your case, it probably wouldn't matter in all likelihood, but I really think it's better to check with your doctor in situations like this. If nothing else, I think it maintains doctor/patient trust.

> MachinI think I'd do what the doctor suggested...otherwise, why go to one? Effexor is probably one of the most controversial ADs out there right now (read past posts) so I'd treat it with all the respect it deserves. And if you decide to quit taking it, decrease it by increments. Spoken by someone who has been there. Best.

Hiya. I'm starting on 75mg Effexor tommorrow but have read about people starting on 37.5mg. Have you tried both? Or just started once on the 75mg? How was it? Did it seem a bit too intense?? people have said they noticed a good difference just on 37.5mg - is it really that noticeable? And of so, wow, whats 75mg gonna be like?! eek
thanks

Hi pretty-paints! Everybody's experiences are unique. What works for you may not be good enough for somebody else. While you mention that you've heard of a good number of people that noticed a good difference at 37.5, I didn't notice anything. Like I said, we're all different and the drugs we take will affect each of us differently. Good luck!!!Angel Girl

Hi,
I think 75mg is too high to start with. I did it and was very sick for the 1st 4 day. You might be ok though. I would suggest working your way up

>Hi pretty_paints,
When I said he should be fine in a blase way it was because I wanted to put a positive spin on it. I started on 75mg because I can't get 37.5mg. It would be best to start at 37.5 for a week to lessen the start up side effects, since the original poster was already into day 5 of 37.5mg I think he would be fine. When I started Effexor it worked instantly for me, but the worst side effects never went away for me. I added Remeron to my Effexor intake & it countered these problems nicely for me.
Cheers,
Panda.
