Could you please recommend psydoc in NY, NY?

Posted by tychka on March 21, 2004, at 22:33:02

I would be increadibly grateful, if someone could recommend to me a good psychiatrist in New York. I've been fighting depression for over 15 years, with and without medications. Unfortunately, I suffer from severe side effects from most of medications(and I've tried quite a few over the years), yet I am at the (low)point, where I am ready to try with the right doctor one more time. I badly need a doctor, who would care about results, not just numbers(of patients, dollars, etc). I need a doctor who would fight the beast with me, not try to convince me that the side effects are figments of my imagination.

Thank you very much for your help.
Ellen

I hear you on trying to find a a good psychiatrist in NY. I found most providers there to be no more than glorified drug dealers.

I strongly recommend you contact the docs up at the Columbia Depression Evaluation Service. 212 543 5734

I've seen both McGrath and Stewart. They're both great docs and renowned researchers in their field. They can give you some good referrals at the very least...

Make it a priority to get in and see someone as soon as possible.

Good luck.

I'll second that. I haven't seen Stewart, but I found McGrath to be very interested in getting people well. He was a pleasure to deal with.
