Is it common to take prednisone/steroids for a thyroid problem?

If you have an inflammation of the thyroid gland, then I think seroids are probably used since they suppress the thyroid. But I don't know much about this topic.
I think that if you are taking steroids for tis purpose, yo uneed to exercise and watch your diet since steroids can make you gain weight.
