Abilify+Seroquel combination???

Posted by kellyr on March 9, 2004, at 18:44:50

I take Abilify 30mg + Zoloft 200mg in the morning & Seroquel 150mg at night. Abilify & Seroquel are the same family of meds, does this seem weird to be taking two different meds for the same thing?

Not at all. Each of these two neuroleptic antipsychotics are unique and quite different from each other. For instance, Abilify often produces insomnia while Seroquel tends to produce somnolence (sleepiness). It is becoming increasingly common to treat certain cases with two (or more) of these drugs. Someone I know needs both Risperdal and Seroquel to bring her into remission. Either alone just does not do the trick. She is also on Abilify currently, but I doubt she needs it.

Good luck.

my pdoc recomended trying zyprexa and abilify together since the abilify kept me from sleeping. I've been reluntant to try it until I saw this post. I thought that it sounded like too much of the same type of med.

my pdoc wanted me to go back on zyprexa but all it did was make me fat and sleep all the time.

I have been back on zyprexa for a while now and expected to gain weight too, but I've lost 4 pounds. I've slept alot too, but after about a year of only 3 hrs a night its kind of nice, just don't want to do it forever. after everything settles down at home I'll probably try abilify again, with zyprea at first.

we tried Olanzipine for my daughter but it caused too many tics. The Dr put her on a combination of Abilfy and Seroquel and I think the tics have settled down but now shes gained heaps of weight and has significant oedema in feet, ankles & calves. Any suggestions on how to reduce this?
