SUGGESTIONS?

Posted by krybrahaha on March 1, 2004, at 3:10:02

I desperately need a drug for my GAD. Ive been on all the SSRI's, Effexor, Serzone, Buspar, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium, and Tranxene.

I currently take Luvox for OCD and Buspar for the side effects of Luvox.

My P-doc seems hesistant to prescribe anything else. Almost every visit --he says that I can just keep talking with my therapist and my anxiety might get better. My anxiety is from my childhood and I have been anxious all my life and have been talking about it for 2 years now.

He said if that dont work we might try Gabitril. He doesnt like Neurontin because of all the high dose ranges.

Think Gabitril is worth a try?

Can therapy CBT actually help GAD? It has helped my OCD though. But, how do I convince him I need a med? Some of the benzos worked, but i grew tolerant to them, so it is a gaba problem. Any Suggestions? Should i seek a second opinion?

TCA time! I would suggest adding Nortriptyline to Luvox to see of you can tolerate the side effects, if so then switch to Clomipramine.

Or, you could try an MAOI, probably Nardil.

Cheers,
Panda.

Have you tried mood stabilizers? I recently read that GAD is sometimes misdiagnosed Bipolar II, which is characterized by fatigue and depression coupled with anxiety and agitation. I am finally accepting my BPII diagnosis (after 4 doctors told me, and after reading several articles.) Just started low dose of Lithium and feel better, but it could be too soon to tell. I have also read and been told by pdocs that SSRIs will make the agitation worse in people with BP.

I hope you feel better. I know how hard it is to try SO MANY different meds and med combos.

Hang in there!
