hi all...
i'm 24 year old with moderate social anxiety. about 2 years ago or so i developed, depression (i believe stemming from SA).
i am on 30mg of prozac right now and it has proved more efficacious than paxil but after about 5 months now of taking it is seeming to taper down its effaciousness. the commercial i saw for paxilcr seems to be a 'better' option for sa. however i went on paxilcr.com and there was no mention of it treating sa. and i don't really want to go by commercials anyways. here's my question
1. anyone on here taking paxilcr for SA, has it been better for you than paxil (if you've taken it)?
2. any other relevant information that i should know about paxilcrthanks SO much!

The controled release version of paxil is not any more effective then the regular paxil. In fact I think it is worse becouse of less Bioavailability then the regular paxil.

thanks for your response! I've been on prozac for about 5 months and it does definetely seem more efficacious for me for at least the depression. the social anxiety, seems to have only lessened as i have a better sense of myself. but their are moments of utter, social panic, that i get, like last night.is there a medicine anyone suggests that i could augment with prozac?

Tony,
I was on Paxil CR for social anxiety, but had to get off because it was seriously impairing my ability to concentrate. I'm not sure that this is a common side effect though.
As far as your question, Paxil & Paxil CR should do just about the same thing (according to my pdoc, who just suggested the CR b/c it's more convenient).
Paxil is generally thought to be quite effective for treating SAD, and I would venture to say it is probably the most prescribed SSRI for SAD. I wasn't on it long enough to get any real feel for it's positive effects.
Now I am trying Zoloft, which also is reported to be quite effective for SAD. I have heard some good things about this med. You may want to look into it, as it might work well for your SAD & Depression. It's worth a shot. I've only been on it for about 2 weeks (I am almot up to 100mg/day where I will stay for awhile) and have not noticed the usual SSRI sexual side effects yet (which I had almost immediately with Paxil & Lexapro). If you really like your prozac, you may just want to keep with it and augment it with some xanax or klonopin for breakthrough anxiety, or tough anxiety involking situations.
Good luck.
This is the end of the thread.
