Guys, and girls!
It looks as if Nardil and Zyprexa have taken their toll on my lovely body!!!
Looked in the mirror the other night, and my head was a pin in comparison to my stomach!! Ha Ha!
Seriously, I look pregnant!
Im still a good looker, but this weight is a bit annoying!!!
Any advice??? Topomax?? I've heard the dopamine agonist Bromocriptine can be helpful....Anyone with experience with these meds or other inform me!
Also, My Zyprexa dose is real low- 2.5, and Nardil now at 60mg....
Has anyone used excercise to negate the extra fat (i doubt this helps) or diet restrictions....
BTW, Nardil is still rocking my world!!
Love and Peace
Mr. "Fatman!" Ace Nardil
Nardil 60 (30 b.i.d)
Zyprexa 2.5 nocte
Xanax 1-2mg PRN.

Ace,
Sorry about the weight gain. I am going through that too. I weigh more now than I ever have. It's really disheartening. But still, I'd rather be heavier, despite health risks, than to be depressed again.I hope someone comes through with some good suggestions. I feel like I have a hollow leg on Nardil. I can eat and eat and eat and still be hungry. Love those carbs!

OMG! You are hysterical. I thought "I" was the only one who looked pregnant!! :) Doesn't that weight gain just kill ya? I have gained 30 plus pounds on Zoloft and can't get rid of it. I did have some success with the Atkins diet when I was OFF the Zoloft. However, Atkins made my hair fall out, so that wasn't so good. Have you tried any type of diet?

Ace,
I got FAT for the first time in my life on Zyprexa, I think my dose was .5mg. Switching to Seroquel solved the problem.
Also avoid Periactin, the other fat pill.

caffiene and ehpedrine :---> very very highly effective to curb appetite and intially i take some phenylalanine to (releases cholesytokinin : bodys own appetite supressing hormone)
i get caffiene from Panadol Extra,Ehpedrine from Coldaway plus, and phenylanine byr drinking a diet soda on an empty stomach in the morning
........is method is so effective sometimes i end up not eating anything at all!!

I always found caffeine to have a negative affect on my anxiety.i however drink so much diet mountain dew i can skip all those high calorie snacks I use to eat which made me gain weight
Golden apples also seem to fill my sweet cravings, a lot better eating several apples than chocolate bars :)

I even bought a $400 espresso machine. I haven't loss any weight on the scale, but my clothes are starting to be a bit looser. I am also lifting weights at home every other day. I just can't get motivated yet to do cardio.
But latte and americano's are completely killing my appetite. I wonder if one can live on that alone. Oh ya, I'm also taking cod liver oil. I am taking Celexa, zopiclone to sleep and sometimes a valium or ativan when needed. Although my doc won't prescribe them for me anymore so I now go through other avenues to get my benzo's.

Go with bromocriptine first. I believe it promotes fat-burning and will only possibly enhance your cognition. Topamax would likely dull it. If the bromo fails, try Topamax, but you probably will not enjoy taking that.

I think some of you are self-absorbed with experimental pharmacotherapy! :)
I've experienced the same problem with Nardil, gaining in excess of 35 pounds - primarily distributed about the abdominal region. I'd always been thin (6'0", 155) and had often tried (unsuccessfully) to gain weight, so the additional weight gain with Nardil therapy was initially welcomed, but undesired over time. The problem is as much abdominal distention as it is weight gain - early on in my use of Nardil, a few people did jokingly suggest I appeared to be pregnant... not the thing you want to hear as a male. Upon my enlistment in the military, with all the food a person could desire, I was able to lose about 80% of the weight even though the distention continued to be an intermittant problem. After military service, I've managed to keep the weight to a minimum by running 30 minutes daily on treadmill.
The distention was a function of reduced bowel transit, adequately controlled with high fiber diet and occasional stool softenor.
Nardil success story at 75mg going on 16 years now. Nearly every year I put up with Pdocs wanting to replace it with the newest "best thing" - all providing no benefit.

You can't take ephedra - or pseudophedrine - while taking Nardil. It's potentially life-threatening to mix either of thsoe with an MAO inhibitor.
