In most cases Prozac is not used for BP as it can cause mania. It is mostly used for depression.Sometimes it used now for PMS symptoms too.

No way! not in my case.. I had my first hypomanic fling on prozac.. then it dropped me on my head and left me there.... I'm trying the non antidepressant route right now. wellbutrin did not do much and made me mean.
so right now I'm taking a small amount of abilify and klonopin. I'm still not stable but some of this stuff is my own issues.Rainee

This is an extremely bad idea. Do not do it. The best antidepressant to try for bipolar disorder alone--assuming you want to go that route, which is not recommended--is Wellbutrin.
Bipolars should have their mood stabilized first before trying any antidepressant, and even then the medication should be titrated upward slowly so its effects can be carefully evaluated.
The best drug, although not labelled an antidepressant, for bipolar depression is Lamictal. That'll stabilize your mood, too.
This is the end of the thread.
