Lamictal...feel worse before better???

Posted by sac on February 22, 2004, at 16:42:41

Is Lamictal supposed to make you feel worse (ie. more depressed) before it begins its "anti-depressant" effect? I am only at 75 mgs. now and feeling more depressed with each dose increase. Almost ready to throw in the towel. Any experiences are greatly appreciated.

just went to 100mg and like you felling worse. crying for no reason at the drop of a hat. but from what i read this is to be expected after dose increase, takes at least a month to work at higher dosage. dont give up yet - you havent given it a chance.

I am BPII and was started on Lamictal three months ago. My Pdoc has been increasing the dose very slowly. I started at 25mgs and have increased by 25mg's every two weeks. My target dose is 200mg's which I will reach in two weeks. I experienced a lot of anxiety after each increase but that would go away. I didn't notice much difference until I reach 175mgs. Now I am feeling my better, less depressed and much more leveled out. I would advise you to go very slowly and give it a chance to work. If it just isn't working be sure to talk to your doctor about this.
But, my experience at the dose of 175mg's has been a very positive one. Hang in there.
