If anyone could help

Posted by terrics on February 19, 2004, at 16:36:29

I am on alot of meds: lithium, effexor, wellbutrin and klonopin. I have terrible tremors from the lithium. Pdoc put me on inderal for the tremors and it worked. Shortly after that I got a cold and was wheezing. I thought it was no big deal and that I could stop the inderal while I was on asthma medication. Well, GP said NO INDERAL at all as it can cause a bronchospasm in asthmatics. Pdoc cannot think of anthing else to use for tremors so she wants to take me off the lithium and put me on geodon. Initially, [before the no inderal input from GP] she was going to increase the lithium because I am cycling too much. I am afraid of the geodon and asked her if I can find something for the tremors could I stay on the lithium.. i am used to it. All suggestions will be very appreciated. terrics

Could you tell me about the singular? Is it an inhaler or a pill? What do you use for a rescue inhaler? ps I did look up inderal after GP said not to take it and it does say bronchspasm. However I think the danger is more with the proventil so I am willing to try singular. Thank you. terrics

Are there any other asthmatics out there?

My asthma is mild. The GP I went to is new to me and very young. This has gotten so out of hand. Now pdoc won't give me the inderal and because the tremors are so bad she wants to take me off the lithium and put me on geodon. I am saying no to that and asking for the inderal again even if I have to sign some kind of release. I really appreciate your reply. terrics

Do you take any preventitives for your asthma? I don't know much about the meds you are on, but I have really bad asthma and take an inhaler 2x a day called Advair. It really helps to keep the airway from reacting to anything whether it be meds or allergens. You might consider seeing an asthma specialist. Usually referred to as an allergy/asthma specialist or an immunologist. Asthma can get very bad and very serious quickly. J

Hey terrics...singulair is a pill you take once a day... before I came across singulair, I was using my ventolin inhaler at least once a day...The day I took singulair was THE last day I have ever used a rescue inhaler... also, the first couple of doese of Inderal gave me very little trouble (as far as asthma) It is a wonderful medication...you may want to try a small does, it comes in 10mg pills....

Do asthma meds have any side effects? Such as fast heart rate? Or rebound?

I get bad breathing problems when the ADD stims I take wear off, and I am considering treating the asthma with an inhaler. But I am concerned that there might be cross-med side effects.

Thanks for any info on your experience with asthma inhalers. I am very nervous about using them.

First of all did you tell your MD about the breathing problems after ADD meds wear off? I have never heard of this and I think you should tell MD. Also, rescue inhalers cause a rapid heart rate and often tremors. I would definitly check into why this is happening to you. terrics

Oh yes, I have mentioned to ADD doc. No insight from that source. So next steps are to see another doc specifically for the breathing problems. They'll likely do a spectometry breating assessment.

Stims, such as dex, are known to relax broncho-muscles, and stimulate breathing. So it is not so odd that I would experience breathing problems upon their leaving my system. I suspect that on some level, the dex is treating the asthma.
