I have been battling depression and now anxiety. I tried Paxil, but had eigain. I tried Welbutrin but had anxiety. I tried Effexsor and felt just flat. Been on lex 10mg going into 4th week. Feeling better but not always. How long does it take to work (so far, no weight gain)

I just responded to one of your above posts.
One frustrating thing about Lexapro can be the amount of time it takes to start working. Most of the literature I've seen says 4-6 weeks, but I think in reality it's more like 9 weeks. However, it's worth the wait!

Hi Linnie,
I was on 10 mgs until about 2 1/2 weeks ago when I increased to 15 mgs. At 10 mgs I was still having mild (but unpleasant) anxiety attacks so my doc suggested increasing the dose. Since going to 15 mgs I haven't had a single anxiety attack! Needless to say, it's great. I hope you get to that point soon.

I have been on Lex 10mg about that long as well. pdoc said "she doesnt expect' anything more from it and will not up the dose just added another RX.

I have found that Lexapro does not work work well for my anxiety and depression but does wonders for the OCD. I take 30mg daily and it took a good 4-6 weeks to feel relief. I have had some weight gain, about 10lbs. It does work differently for everyone. You may need more than 10mg. I think 10-20 is standard, but I can't confirm that. j
