Greetings
I don't read much about prozac anymore, with all the other meds out there. I was on serzone for a couple of years for anxiety and panic, but it started to lose its effectiveness. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac, for what he decribed as my "obsessive thoughts". I have started out at a low dose (5 mg) and recently raised (10 mg) - and I was just curious about people who have had good expreiences with this med. Oh yeah, I am starting to reduce the Serzone slowly because the thought of withdrawal scares me.

Prozac works pretty well for me. I take a little Xanax also as needed. Sometimes obsessive thoughts call for a higher dose of Prozac than depression. Proceed slowly. I had least side effects of this med. Im on 40 mgs. Good luck.

I've never taken it, but my cousin has been on it for depression for a while (I don't know exactly how long). She also takes a benzo for anxiety/panic. She suffered a lot and now she feels good, has a good life, and doesn't care if she's on it forever.
Remember, those success stories are not necessarily posting on the internet! Good luck.

Prozac is a great drug. I think its a good idea to do what you are doing by starting low and gradually going up. If I remember correctly, the starting dose is usually 20 mg. Prozac is also good because less expensive generics are available.

I've had some decent success with it for depression.
Celexa didn't do much at all.
Lexapro was like the worst flu ever.
Zoloft made me weird and weepy.
With 20mg Proz every morning I feel the buzz but by evening I'm mellow and sleep much better than I have in years (6-7 hrs without waking up).
Expect lots of trial and error, everybody is their own personal drug experiment.
Good Luck!

Hi Traveler,
I had a wonderful experience with Prozac. I started very much the same way that you have and gradually increased to 40 mg. I took it for about 3 years and felt wonderful. One word of caution: if you stop taking it and then start taking it again it may not be as effective as it was the first time. I wish you great success on Prozac.

Prozac helps me lots. Maybe it is not very "sexy", but it is very effective.

Thank you. I sometimes feel like a science experiment, with all of the augmenting this and trying that...but I am on week three and so far so good.

Prozac was the first AD I took, and at that time, it saved my life. Because of chronic back pain, I suffered from unipolar depression which is major depression with no mania and I was unable to function. 2 months later, I was able to go back to work and was back to my old self. Prozac is an excellent med. Don't let negative things you hear scare you. I started feeling my depression lifting after 2 weeks from when I first took it.
