I finally got the nerve up to start taking Wellbutrin, and have had very little side effects. Other than a slight headache at times, or a head buzz the first few days immediately after taking a pill, I have not experienced alot of effects mentioned in the threads. I even find I have been sleeping better since I started. I am on 100mg right now for 30 days and I don't know if this will be increased. It was given for mild depression and burnout.
I am now wondering if I should expect any more side effects to appear, or do they go away after you adjust to the medication. I have been on it for 7 days and no longer feel even the head buzz. I sure hope so! I do seem to be having a little problem with my short term memory right now though.
Also, how long does it take before you start to feel better. I still have low motivation, which is not normal for me, although I feel less irritable.
I'd be grateful if anyone has answers. I'm sure I'll have alot more questions for you as it progresses.
Thanks for listening!

Has anyone noticed some weight loss with Wellbutrin?
How about Tinnitus?
And does anybody really know how it works?

I'd like to know how it works too, with a
less scientific & user friendly explanation.
What is Tinnitus? That one I haven't heard of.

Yes, I had tinnitus, ringing in my ears, while on Wellbutrin SR. I didn't experience this on the XL, but that side effect did subside after a couple of weeks.
Wellbutrin does curb my appetite.
I can not begin to explain how this med. works, and neither does Glaxo.

Hey, I've had that too! But only on the first few days. Have you had any short term memory loss? This I HAVE noticed, but it is minimal. I am also finding that sometimes I am stuttering a little.

Unfortunately I can't attribute my poor memory to taking Wellbutrin. I've been like this for years...hmm...it all began after I started having children LOL, prior to that I had an excellent memory.
No stuttering, but I'm dealing with alopecia an acne. I didn't even have acne during puberty...now it shows up. My normally very thick hair is thin in a few places. Maybe when I decrease the dosage all of these symptoms will subside.

weight loss is common with wellbutrin. a friend of mine became very skinny on it. i did not experience profound weight loss, but i was losing because i was off zyprexa which helped me gain 35. I started welbutrin 3 or 4 months after i ended zyprexa. I am still on wellbutrin, and I have not dipped below my pre zyprexa weight. I am 5 pounds over still.

Okay, is it just me or has ANYONE found that Wellbutrin makes them sleepy???
This is my 6th day on Wellbutrin SR 150mg. About 30 minutes after taking my dose, I get sleepy....and I feel like that for most of the day!
I know that Wellbutrin has stimulant properties, but the drug books also list "sedation" as an uncommon side effect. Will this go away?? I was looking forward to the energy that everyone talks about. Lol!
Other than that, I can't really tell any difference. I have a little bit of diarrhea, but that is about it.
Anyone else sleepy like me?? Lol! Why would NE cause that?

I find that it seems to make me a little sleepy too. No nervousness at all. It is possible that I have adult ADD, and I know this med is sometimes prescribed for that. I wonder If it has the opoosite effect on people that have this. The stimulant in Ritalin is supposed to work this way.
Just a theory.

Hi Kirsten,
I'm trying the Wellbutrin for inattentive ADD, but I didn't expect it to cause sleepiness. It lasts for about 4 hours after I take it in the morning. Maybe I should be taking it at bedtime.
I do not have the hyperactive type, so I'm not sure why it would make me sleepy. Maybe it's a drug interaction.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when I increase to 300mg in a couple more weeks.

Within the hour after taking the Wellbutrin XL I'm very sleepy. This also occurred with the SR.
Hmm...and my doctor thought this was uncommon after I reported this side effect. :)

After reading your post, I'm thinking that maybe I am right about the Ritalin effect. I'll ask my docter next week. Let me know if you find this out sooner. My docter referred me for ADD testing but I can't afford it.

So have you lost weight? Does it increase your ability to burn fat?

Yes, it has curbed my appetite. I have lost weight, but I have been dieting and exercising. I would not say that Wellbutrin has contributed to my ability to burn fat.

Made me dead sleepy for about three days, then I only noticed a slight effect with 150 XR 1-2/day. Sometimes I was able to use that - if I woke in the night about 5 hours before normal alarm time, the WB150 XR would put me to sleep for just that length of time!
BTW, I seem to be the only person to have GAINED weight on Wellbutrin - my appetite came back for the first time in two years of steady depression and weight loss!

Has anyone had problems with their teeth while taking Wellbutrin? A few days after beginning on 150mg SR, I started getting tooth-aches. I can't figure out which tooth it may possibly be coming from because it seems like it's a ROW of teeth!! It's so bad that I have to take Tylenol with codeine to get some relief.
Does this side effect go away, or am I suddenly coming down with multiple bad teeth?? Lol!!

Wellbutrin makes me sleepy too, and occasionally causes tinnitus. After being on and off it for years, I don't think it had any drastic effect on my weight.
Three times I've been on it, and three times I've gone back off after about a year. It seems to help me with the ADD symptoms at first, but that benefit seems to have a delayed negative boomerang effect that doesn’t make much sense. Each time after taking it continuously for a year, it stops working, and starts causing concentration problems and memory loss. I'd swear that I've seen this effect all three times, and that's why I got off of it again a month ago. Three strikes.

>I am really glad you brought this up! I have really noticed memory loss & concentration problems. I also feel like I am stuttering.
I am the Director of a child care program, and need to think quickly, and remember many bits of info. If this dosen't go away I will have to stop the med. I have had no other side effects lately that I've noticed.
I really hope this is temorary!

Weird! Me too! And since I just had a TON of work done, I knew I couldn't have MORE cavities! How strange. I'm replacing Wellbutrin with Strattera, and I'm wondering how I'll be then. Right now, I can't get a good night's sleep and I'm tired all of the time. Oh, and my teeth hurt.
I don't know if my insomnia is from the Wellbutrin or the Celexa I'm also taking. Or both. Anyone else taking both?

This is Day 12 of being on Wellbutrin SR 150mg, and I only had a tooth-ache ONCE today! Maybe this side effect is finally starting to leave, and I won't have to be popping Ibuprofens by the dozen. Lol!
Like you, I am also on Celexa. I was taking 80mg per day, but now I only take 20mg. It doesn't do a lot for me at any dose, but just in case it DOES help my anxiety I don't want to give it up. *smile*
How are your teeth today? What a lousy side effect, huh?

Me again! I have not had any of this. My husband thinks you may be clenching your teeth at night. He gets this at times and is not taking anything.

I saw my psych today, and she said she doesn't think it's a side effect since I've been on Wellbutrin for quite a while. Hmmm. She also mentioned that I might be clenching my teeth at night. They weren't that bad today -- but I'm exhausted from three nights w/o sleep!

My toothaches finally stopped. Phew! That was not a pleasant experience.
Actually, I see that "myalgia" can be a side effect from Wellbutrin. That could account for the toothaches. I know that I haven't been clenching my jaw because I don't sleep well enough to do that.
I'm glad that you're feeling better.
I just went up to 300mg yesterday, and the toothaches didn't return.
