Hey everyone --
I'm now on Depakote, twice a day, and have recently weaned off of Lexapro. One surprising and unexpected effect -- that I'm not sure whether to attribute to getting closer to my sexual peak as a woman or to the med withdrawal -- has been a sudden increased interest in sex and greater capacity to orgasm.
I feel like an animal, since now I want to experience this newfound joy every DAY!
Has anyone else noticed anything similar? I didn't notice that I was particularly less sexual on Lexapro, but I had been on SSRI's or an SSNRI for years.

I am currently on lex and have (UNFORTUNATELY) noticed a huge decline in my interest in sex and ability to orgasm, so I can relate to what you went through. What is the new med you are taking?? Is it an SSRI?
Congrats on your new found joy! ;)

I can tell you without seeing the response that it is not an SSRI. I am so glad to be off Prozac. It hammered my libido and that is not helpful for depression.

When I was going off of Paxil, before I went on Effexor, I noticed this phenomenon, too.

>Hey Clight,
The new med I am taking is called Depakote, and its an anti-epileptic, which is also used commonly as a mood stabilizer and to treat migraines. I'm using it for migraine prevention, but --probably due to the mood stabilization effect -- it's also been great for anxiety and depression. I was terrified to take it, fearful that it would make me feel flat and 'overmedicated,' but I feel great.

bookgurl99,
Thanks for the info, I have just been on lexapro for 4 months and it has helped me soooo much. I am sure this libido thing will get old and it is good to know there are other possible meds out there. I hope to be off of them soon though.........we'll see.
Thanks.

Just curious about the dosage of Depakote you take. It's great that it helps.

Hey interject, its 250 mgs, twice a day. my dr. is considering pushing it higher -- i'm tracking migraine frequency to see if it's necessary, as the drug is considered quite strenuous to the liver and I want to avoid increases if at all possible.

Definately a rebound caused by increased dopamine activity that was suppressed by the SSRI. I always get it from stopping SSRI's or Effexor.
Too bad it goes away!

and funny enough, after not dating the year and some i was on effexor, i'm seeing a new guy as of about a week ago. hmmmm. ;-D
