40% Price Increase For Parnate?!?!

Posted by cubbybear on February 14, 2004, at 4:56:44

Would someone be able to back me up on this? I've never seen more than about a 10% price increase per year on Parnate.

I live overseas, and so I ask my close friend in the U.S. to get a price quote from a local independent pharmacy around L.A.,--which has always had rock-bottom prices-- then I pick up the meds when I visit.

He just informed me that they quoted close to $900
for 1200 tablets (one year supply). If my records are correct, this is about a 40% increase over last year. I'm going to have him check with Walgreens to see what their price is, but meanwhile, could anyone who has taken Parnate at least since last year tell me if this is for real?? A 40% price increase on a drug that hardly anyone takes anymore? We all know that the drug companies are gouging left and right, and perhaps Glaxo Smith Kline has decided that it's the Parnate consumers' turn to get ripped off.

Any helpful feedback would be much appreciated.

Parnate costs $13.57 for 50 x 10mg Tablets here in Australia.

Sorry for sounding peevish, but I actually asked about price increases in the U.S. over the last year or so. I'm well aware of the difference in cost between the U.S. and every other country on the planet, and it makes me furious.

How does Australia compare to the US price wise?
I'm jobless ATM, so all my drugs cost me $3.80 a packet.

Cheers,
Panda.

I was quoted a retail price from Walgreens of about $875 U.S. for a quantity of 1200 tablets. That would mean approximately .73 cents a tablet. The point is that this represents an inexplicable, unconscionable increase of about 40% over last year. I know I risk being warned regarding civility, but if this is truly the case--and I still don't believe it-then Glaxo Smith Kline are a bunch of RIPOFF BASTARDS!!!

This situation is exactly what was reported in the article in--what was it? Time Canada magazine? (see Psychobabble post from about 1-2 weeks ago) regarding prices charged by the drug firms in the U.S. As soon as I can, I'm going to write to the manufacturer, send letters to the newspapers, raise total hell with these people. They should be shot!
