Hi my fellow brothers and sisters of mental illness (we are a special bunch!),
OK, I have just started Neurontin in an effort to kill my remaining anxiety and OCD (which Nardil has done an brilliant job on I must emphasis!)
I took 600mg yesterday....300 at noon, 300 at 9pm...didn't feel much effects....here are my qstns...
1. Onset of action: How long did Neurontin take to kick in for you? Was it gradual or overnight?2. Efficacy and therapeutic goal?: With what does Neurontin help, and how much does it help?
3. Dose: What dose? Nocte, Mane, tds??? When you take it, split or whole???
3. AD effect: Does it have any antidepressent effect??
4. How long have you been on it?5. Say a few positive things about it to get Mr. Ace Nardil excited!

>I can concentrate much better. this might be due to decreased anxiety. And of course helps a LOT for anxiety.

> 3. AD effect: Does it have any antidepressent effect??Well it made me so spacey that I didn't care if I was depressed. There is nothing about it's chemical properties that would indicate any anti-depressant effect.

Neurontin 2 years started bumping up from 600 mg at bed...to 1200 at bed then as it helped my anxiety (I was benzo free for a long while cause of it) I was given 2 more 3 300 mg dose in the day...bummer was it made md "fly" at that dose lol I was toooo happy :) and made me eat but not gain weight so worry not. So we took me down to 1200 mg total then little by little down to 300mg at bedtime with Ambein. I LOVE the drug. I had no bad side effects in fact it is known to work well with almost all drugs, no weight gain and I could read and watch TV with full attention to the material again..Its a great med IMO and RULES :P The half ife on it is short thats why they like mulitple doses and no withdrawals...nothing bad really for me. IT WAS GREAT for anxiety and sleep..Its an odd med in that it doesnt go through the liver like most meds it goes through the kidneys so they want people to have good kidney function. Its good..I rarely recommend a drug but it saved me life when many meds failed. Good luck on it.

I take 900 mg. at bedtime for sleep, beautiful sleep. It keeps me down for about 4 hours, then I wake up. I've been taking it for years, but at much lower doses.
My pdoc wants me to take it in the daytime for anxiety. I took 300 mg this A.M. and it just made me zoned. Benzos are better, IMHO.
This is one drug that could use a sustained release formulation.

Now, I would frequently run into walls, so I quit taking it entirely, as CBT therapy helped with my anxiety. Now, I take 300 mgs as needed, which is VERY rarely!!! I'd say it averages out to once every other week perhaps??

*Saddle up cowboy! (Not that it's going to be bumpy!!!) Neurontin has helped me a great deal in reducing my anxiety. I just quit taking it because therapy was doing it's trick. The only side effect I noticed was that I had a "drunken" feeling, but I didn't complain. And, my Pdoc raised it higher at one point, but I was slurring my words on the phone so bad he decided to lower it back down. I noticed that it treats me in a way similar to klonopin, only not as "stuporing." (If that makes sense??) But, after you take it for about a week, you get used to it. Maybe it was because my dose was high? Neurontint GREATLY helped me to reduce my anxiety and when I quit taking it suddenly, I had no withdraw syptoms at all.... IT's been good to me, I'm sure you'll see similar results :)>

Ride on little poney! I always wanted to be a little cowgirl! You made my day! :) The neurontin has helped tremendously with my anxiety. I have no doubt it will help with yours. I've stopped pacing while I take it, and it helps me to relax. Beware though, sometimes it makes me loopy! But, I've always been a little loopy. So, it's hard to say if it's just the real me coming out or the Neurontin. I'd say it's the neurontin.
