I have neer tried Topomax. Do you think it's worth a shot for Bi-polar II? Take klonopin right now.. stopped wellbutrin,Did not do much. Actually made very snappy and angry. Now off I feel calmer. But hey it could be a another swing who knows..lol
I just want to try to stay away from an AD right now and just try a stabilizer.
maybe a low dose of seroqeol (sp) at night for sleep. and taper off the klonopin. I did try seroquil once took a little bit and it knocked me on my a*&....so I'm going in armed focus on symptoms I am very direct .. so we will see.
plus if I could get a little bit of weight off it would help... I gained 75 pounds over the years on Prozac.
any thoughts?Rainee.... and thanks

hi Rainee,
I am BP 1 and I take Lamictal. I had gained over 50 pounds on Zyprexa and I've lost more than 30 pounds since switching to Lamictal and Geodon at the end of November.
I would ask your pdoc about Lamictal. It is supposed to be "weight neutral" and that has been the case for me.
I did a trial of Topamax and it made me very irritable and wasn't potent enough I didn't lose a pound, either. :( Of course, YMMV.
Best of luck,
Girl

Topamax has some really difficult side effects to get through, although it is a very good med. I would definately start with Lamictal, as I've heard it works great alone, without the need for an ad, and it doesn't cause weight gain. I personally found it didn't do much of anything, though...I got no resonse at all, but this is not typical. I moved on to Topamax, and have had good results, but like I said, getting through the side effects was quite trying. Good luck to you!
