I've read a lot of the posts here about withdrawl from Effexor. I tapered down for one month from 150mg, which I took for about 9 months. I'm on my fourth day with no Effexor, and I'm in hell. Every waking moment is plagued with horrible sensations - zinging - shocks -- in my head...sick to my stomach...flu-like symptons. I've experienced withdrawl from a horrible street drug habit over a decade ago...and this is just as bad. I just went to the store to buy benadryl...took it over an hour ago...not helping. Someone please tell me how long these symtoms will last. I have high tolerance for pain...but this is borderline too much for me.

It will get better. I am living proof. If you just read my posts from last 2 weeks you'll see. I had all of those yucky sh*t feelings and more. I wanted to kill myself more than ever just to alleviate the nausea, pain, distress, flu-iness, head buzzes and million other horrifying feelings.
The worst came between day 4 and 9 of withdrawing. Just keep yourself busy. Try not to think about it. i found that going out and getting a whiff of cold air (-40 wind in my case..eastern Canada) really helped me forget the feelins. Repeated Deep and long breaths helped sometimes. Too much heat did NOT help. Eating, even though you feel nauseated to the pit, helps too. I found my other symptoms worse when I hadnt eaten at all for hours. And very important...sleep lots and lots. it really helps clear out the system, also, i guess, one doesnt feel much while sleeping :). just sleep whenever you can....it might be hard but try.Its been 2 weeks now and I'm free finally.
It may take longer depnding on how much of that crap you took and for how long.so go get some fresh air and stay away from anything that might make you feel sick (like bumpy car rides, confined spaces, too much stress)
Good luck

> DonnaThanks for much for your reply. Yes, the zaps are aggitated by movement and sounds...I can't even stand the sound of the ceiling fan in my bathroom...it causes "shortages" in my head! Crazy stuff. I can't BELIEVE this is happening. It helps to know it will get better...I just don't know if it will be one week or one month or one year...I've heard so many different stories!
Again, thanks.

Hang in there! I just stoped cold turkey a week ago and didn't feel too bad and now I feel a little better except for the crying zand mood swings. Mind you I was only taking them for a few weeks.
This is the end of the thread.
