Posted by Rainee on January 27, 2004, at 11:46:02

been on all SSRIS the only time I felt good was the intial prozac the first SSRI I felt eupohoric and great for the first time in my life. But that gave way to lethargy, depression and weight gain .
now years later I have been on wellbutrin for monthe 300 mg of the SR type .. I'm angry, irritable, depressed.. not working.
I tak klonopin for anxiety also.
any suggestions as to what the hell is wrong with me?
I begged God to take me.. I'm tired of living in this just breathing world..
anyone understand?
I'm really desperate.

Many people feel much the same way. It's just a matter of trying medications till you find the right fit. Any pdoc will be willing to work with you till you get it right.

Good Luck.

Rainee:

I'm no doctor, I don't even play one on TV, but have you taken a quiz for bipolar? Click over to this link and see if it helps:

http://www.dbsalliance.org/questionnaire/screening_intro.asp

The problem is, you may be taking the wrong medication for the way your brain is *wired*, and getting unsatisfactory results in return.

Wellbutrin is more often prescribed for ADHD, not as much for depression. It can make one irritable and hyper as part of the way it works, by activating the mind. If you're experiencing lethargy, it's not working.

Effexor is NOT an SSRI, perhaps you should look into it. It has worked for many people, including me. Please talk to you mental health professional about your options. If your quiz is positive, show them the results. That's what I'm going to do next week...

Kindest Regards,

Tony

I know how it feels, but don't give up. Have you ever tried an MAOI? They are supposedly very effective, but you just have to be careful with what you eat

Have you tried the natural way of dealing with depression? That is vitamins, exercise and meditation! Try the following vitamins:

Mainly:

SAM-e
St. John's Wort

Also:

Super B-Complex
Vitamin E
Omega 3

There are also teas with herbs that have can be helpful. Try visiting GNC or a health food store in your area. There is alot out there. For more info online go here:

http://www.naturemade.com
http://www.naturemade.com/wellnesstopics/wt_articles.asp?articleid=133

Do a mood search.

Vitamins available cheap at walmart or target. As far as prescriptions go, certainly if a drug isn't working for you, try another. There are a ton of them out there. If you dr isn't helpful, fire him/her! Run, don't walk, find another one! There are a tons of doctors out there!

Also, get to the root of the problem. What's bothering you? Find solutions to the stresses in your life, make a plan and take action. Meditation and exercise also help your mood. Meditation will help you find what's bothering you. Natural mood elevating chemicals are released when you EXERCISE. If you don't like exercising, like most, just give it a try, it's the first step that's hard, take one step on the treadmill or a walk outside and the second step is much easier.

Hang in there! There are many options available to you, find them and try them!

After being on drugs for 14 yrs, I'm going natural. I'm sick of the side effects of the drugs, they have become too bad and out weight any good any of the drugs may have given me.

My sugestion is zyprexa. You could take it with or without the wellbutrin. The wellbutrin will wake you up and control eating. The zyprexa will probably get rid of anger and eratabilify.

My guess is you will want to get rid of wellbutrin. zyprexa can cure anxiety. try it and see if it works. most likely you will know very quickly if there is any hope for the zyprexa.

I take abilify also, which anti-depresses and enegizes, wakes up, cuts eating. That might work better than wellbutrin.

abilify is a thought.. no zyprexa thought I'm already 100 pounds overweight. Wellbutrin did not energize me for long than I sank..

Thanks

TRY "LUVOX"

It has an enormous anxiolytic effect and unlike all other SSRI's is metabolized by a fifferent enzyme on p450.
When most SSRI's have failed and u have not yet tried Luvox u should not assume that they will all fail and that it is time to move to another group.

> Effexor is NOT an SSRI

The marketing men at Wyeth call it an SNRI, but it's not really, the only real SNRI's are the tricyclics like clomipramine & amitriptyline. I've also heard Efexor being called 'Prozac with a punch' which is ironic because Prozac is a better norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor than Efexor is & that is why it is know as the most energizing of the SSRI group. My doc started me in Prozac, but I hated it so he switched me to Efexor which is putting me in a good mood but it hasn't given me an energy yet.

Cheers,
Panda.

Rainee,
I know how frustrating it all can be. Maybe you are BP2- I was treated for depression and anxiety for years and it never worked. (took all the famous ssri's. Finally my new pdoc wants me to try lamictal since i am bi-polar 2. Im praying this will work. Talk to your doc.

Hi Rainee,

Pick up the phone and call your pdoc. The wellbutrin obviously isn't working...there are a lot of other meds to try and one of them will work for you. You don't have to live like this and you deserve to be happy.

Prozac was wonderful for me too, and now I take Lexapro for anxiety/depression. You might want to give it a try. I understand that things are bad for you right now, but don't give up yet!

K.
