Nardil wins again!

Posted by ace on January 24, 2004, at 21:18:55

13 months later and this baby still suprises her father! Going down to 60mg has really recaptured the great effects!! I was on 90mg for ages but just decided to lower as I am adding Neurontin soon, anyhow Nardil decides to give me a prize!

So, at 60mg, I am a happy dude, motivated with a lust for life! Now, its time for me to squash the OCD and tiny little bit of derealization left over.

I am the Nardil Champion!

Ace,
Nardil, 60mg
Zyprexa, 2.5mg.

I'm going to be a little scant on the info here because I don't have my references in front of me, but this is what I recall: Selegeline (Deprynel and Jumex I believe are two of the trade names) is often prescribed with PEA (phenylethylalanine) because the two are thought by some to be necessary for maximum dopaminergic effect. Some psychobabblers have reported remarkable success with the combination. There are also various supplements available from health food stores which can support the action of the sel. and PEA.
Note: This is one of the combos I will be trying if my current med trial with Parnate is not successful. This choice is after lots of research and nearly 30 years of treatment (now in a resistant phase) for major depression. I would be very interested in hearing about your personal experience with sel if you go that route. Persistence and Patience! Regards Sailor

Oooops! This was meant to appear 21 lines up in response to "what to combine with selegeline". Operating through a parnate nap-craving fog right now. The computer is one of the few things that can keep me awake. Regards, Sailor

Hey Ace,

I'm now up to 60 mg daily of Nardil and feeling pretty good. I can't believe I'm taking the same dose as the "king", lol.

I'm not getting that strange spontaneous BP spike as Parnate gave me.

I've only been at 60 for about a week and a half. How long before one should expect to see effects?

Also, do you think I need to go up to 90 first, and go down once I get a response?

Also, how persistent are these cognitive "dumbing" effects? Do these go away with time? I hope so. I feel pretty clumsy and forgetful right now. Other than that, really no side effects at all. I didn't even get hypotension.

Glad to hear Nardil's pulling through for you again!

Stick with what works, man! You sound like you're doing well.

Matt

I'm still alive Matty!!!!! Get me another burger! (actually I have some major chocolate cravings thanks to Nardil and Zyprexa!)

Great!

In terms of efficacy, I would leave it at that for a full 4 weeks...then we can look again at the situation.

No. I believe stay at 60mg for 4 weeks. If depression/anxiety not completely alleviated, THEN go to 90mg.

> Also, how persistent are these cognitive "dumbing" effects? Do these go away with time?

For me they do. But they can last a while. I now think much clearer on Nardil.

I hope so. I feel pretty clumsy and forgetful right now. Other than that, really no side effects at all. I didn't even get hypotension.

Good for you mate! Just be patient with the cognitive s/effects, they will pass- I am almost certain.

In 13 months it has been a blessing, a real blessing. At its worst it works very good...and at its best Im in heaven!! I truly feel blessed to have this medicine. And I feel great that I've seen other people take it due to my posts and recieve the same happiness.

Power to you Matt. I hope the CBT is working too. I think that stuff can help when one is feeling better...so I am more fair on it these days...I just can't stand David burns's new website!!!!!!

I hate to burst your bubble, Ace, but a sudden dosage reduction of Nardil can cause a passing improvement that can last from a few hours to a few days. Some people actually become manic from abruptly discontinuing Nardil. I truly hope that 60mg will stick for you, but I don't think Nardil has any kind of dosage window for response. If you don't fit any of these patterns, wonderful. However, I thought it important that you know a little bit more about the personality of Nardil. If you find yourself constantly yo-yo'ing up and down in dosage, you might be setting your brain up for eventual antidepressant non-response.

I started reducing my Nardil dose 4 weeks ago...since then I have been feeling better and better...and I was feeling OK in the first place! Nardil never lets me down!

Ace.

Ace,
Glad you are doing better. I just upped from 45 to 60. Hoping the SE's don't return full force, but at least I know they go away eventually.

Take care!

since Nardil binds irreversibly to MAO... after you "feel better" it is perfectly reasonable to, and advisable to, decrease to a maintenance dose of as little as 15 mg every day or every other day...because Nardil tends to accumulate w/in the liver (being a hydrazine-type medication)
