My Pdoc just gave me Xanax but I haven't tried it yet. Been on Wellbutrin for 2 months but it's done nothing to help anxiety. I was on 150mgs, and now he also wants me to go to 300mgs, too. I'm wondering if anyone is on this combo cocktail.
If so, has it helped? And what about any/all side effects? Thanx

I see your dilema about anxiety & Wellbutrin. I suffer with anxiety but was put on Wellbutrin as a *last* resort (tried all other AD's with bad results) by my pdoc until I can get appt. w/psych. Well started on Wellbutrin XL 150 mg and did pretty good, still had to take Klonopin or Xanax because Wellbutrin only adds more anxiety for people who already have anxiety! Per my pdocs advice, within 10 days, I tirated up to 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL....in a matter of just a week I thought I was going to rip anyone's head off! It was horrible! I had so much anxiety I went into a full blown panic attack in my therapist office. She wanted to know why I was so "different" compared to my last session. I mentioned that my pdoc told me to increase the Wellbutrin to 300 mg. She told me to immediately go back down to 150 mg. and stay there until my psych appt. I followed her advice and a week later, I felt much better.
IMHO, Klonopin works better than Xanax because it's longer acting. I like to have Xanax on hand if I begin to have a panic attack because within 10-15 minutes I start to calm down & breathe slower. But the effects don't last long enough for me (& others from what I've read). In the evening when I take Klonopin, I can sleep all night, just because I'm not having racing thoughts or anxiety.

I was taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL and just today went up to 300mg. 2 days ago I also started Xanax XR which is the extended release Xanax and the combo is working great for me. I was taking Wellbutrin and Paxil for the anxiety but the sexual sides from the Paxil were bad, so the doctor prescribed the Xanax XR instead.

When I began taking Wellbutrin SR I also took it along with Ativan. I didn't have any problem with combining these two meds.
I was taking 300mg. of Wellbutrin XL until today...I've now dropped down to 150mg. I'm hoping that the decrease will improve some other issues.

I am also curious as to why you decreased to 150mgs. I have not yet gone to 300mgs but will soon, so was there a problem for you at that dosage? I do have concerns because a current problem I have with Wellbutrin is...shall we say...a bit of backed up plumbing?? I fear it will worsen at 300mgs!!so wondered if this might have been a problem you, or anyone, has experienced at either dosage. Oddly enough, prior meds I've been on caused the exact opposite problem which is why I was put on Wellbutrin. Thanks for your (and everyone's) help.

I went to 300mg XL yesterday which is the "theraputic dose" according to prescribing info and I haven't had any negative problems. A little more spun but not in an anxiety way, it's positive and the Xanax XR takes the edge off anyway. The nice thing about Wellbutrin XL is that when you do increase the dose and have initial side effects, they only last a day or two.
I would still like to know why Edgefield dropped back down to 150mg though.

Me, too...so hope we'll get an answer?? Often it's because of "undesired effects", like I've had,unfortunately, which is why I'm hesitant to go to 300mgs. If I find there's a problem of some sort....hmmmm. I take SL, tho, but the next change will be to XR, my pdoc says. We've been going slowly because I'm so side-effect sensitive.
I still have dizziness and fatigue, and my blood pressure is up, too. If it doesn't kill me, it'll cure me????

True...hopefully. But part of my anxiety is worrying about stuff like this. Meds, in general, scare me...and because I'm so side-effect sensitive, I like to be prepared....just in case....

I dropped to 150mg because of my blood pressure. Second to seizures, Wellbutrin can raise your blood pressure. Which is my case it definitely has been substantially elevated. My pressure is normally low...but lately it's been as high as 150/100. I'm now taking Microzide daily for my blood pressure.
Both my pdoc and internal med. doctor felt that lowering the dosage might help. I pray that this will work.
Today is day two on 150mg. an I've noticed that I'm feeling more spacey than before. This too will pass!

I started Wellbutrin and Xanax at the same time, and I think with the two of them on board, I'm much better than I was before. Wellbutrin gives me energy, maybe a little too much in the form of anxiety, and Xanax smooths over the agitating side effects from Wellbutrin. I'm on the regular stuff of both Wellbutin and Xanax, so I can't speak to the effect of the XR versions.
