My 12 year old son has been on 10mg of Adderall daily for ADD for approximately 12 weeks. The past few times he has taken it, he has experienced his eyes trying to roll back into his head and then his eyes moving up and down uncontrollably. He feels dizzy and nausius while this occurs. I was wondering if any others have experienced this with Adderall and any information you found out about it if so. Thanks for your help!

My 10 year old son was previously on Ritalin (15mg 2-3 times per day) And was switched to Adderall This past September. He has begun to have attitude problems since he started this medication. Has anyone had similar problems and if so what alternatives do I have?> > > My 12 year old son has been on 10mg of Adderall daily for ADD for approximately 12 weeks. They have been on it for 5 weeks, and the problems have gotten worse instead of better.

My doctor lowered my 2nd dose and I have been fine ever since. I find that I just have to take my afternoon dose before 3p.m. if I want to get to bed at a decent hour. (and I really could benifit from it late at night, too...I like to read before going to sleep and I'm getting tired of reading each page several times because I got distracted along the way!)
My only other side effect was, of course, weight loss. But for a female standing 5"3' in stocking feet, being a size 3 really isn't a complaint! Good luck to everyone!

Well, my 12 year old is now 13. We took him off Adderall for a few weeks and then put him back on. He has not had a reocurrence of the side effect of the eyes rolling. Otherwise, the medication has really helped him. He went from failing several classes last year to a staight A and B student this year. He even took the SAT test in a talen search a few weeks ago. His 11 year old brother is now also on Adderall and seems to be doing well on it as well with no side effects.

My fifteen year old son has been on Adderall for about
6 months. They just increased his dosage to
20 mgs twice a day. Today I had to take
him into the emergency room due to a slight
seizure? I'm not even sure thats what it was
It only lasted a matter of seconds but It was
enough to scare me. He has been on several
different meds and I'm about ready to give up on
medication management. The sad fact of it is
it was beginning to help him. I have seen a great
diffence in his school work

My daughter, 4 and a half, started adderall 3 weeks ago with increasing doses. We were to go to the highest dose this week, 15mg. I tried it one day and said no way... she was dazed for a couple of hours and sat in my lap with her stuffed animals for half an hour, until it started to wind down. She's now at 5mg morning and afternoon each. She's doing very well and her ADHD is minimized. She's had most of the side effects...dry mouth, loss of appetite, upset stomach, diarrhea, a little harder to go to sleep at night.
Anyone else with a small child on adderall?> My fifteen year old son has been on Adderall for about

if his mom does not give him his medication. He's really
irritable and can't stand still. When he takes his medicine
he does very well in school. They had to up him from 5mg.
to 10. He takes 1 tablet in the morning. He doesn't take
any the rest of the day. I feel that the increase has
helped him tremendously. For him this is a good drug. He
is a totally different person.

I am 32 and have been on Adderall for 2 years. It is the only thing that has helped me with a constant fatigue that I had all of my life. I lost weight at first because it surpressed my appetite but after awhile this wears off. It is definately a stimulant and if I take it after 2:00 pm I have trouble falling asleep.
Good Luck

Yes I took a few of his pills but only if one was skipped by him or forgotten I have never taken any that
he didn't have to spare. I find myself looking forward to the end of the month when we know he has enough

You need a new doctor. Look for someone who treats adult ADD/ADHD. Maybe your son's doc could treat you or recommend someone. If you find someone who knows about ADD in adults, you won't need to "confess" about your self-medicating, just tell him/her your symptoms. You might want to check out a couple of books on adult ADD by John Ratey. Good luck!

Can any medical professional explain to me why this "front-line" medication for ADD is available in the United States but not in Canada?
Please e-mail me as soon as possible!
Thanks.

In reply to How come I am not allowed this medication in Canad, posted by Gregor on April 7, 2000, at 18:54:13
Gregory - Adderal has not been approved by Health Canada, yet. The drug's manufacturer has to prove to them that this drug is safe and efficacious. Just because the FDA (and perhaps the rest of the world) says that this drug is at least as good as existing treatments does not mean that Canadian officials are satisfied with the drug trials that have been published to date. I am not sure what the hold-up with Adderal is, but in general there is a backlog of drugs that are to be released (eg mirtazepine, ziprasidone, sertindol, etc.) (actually, because of potential heart problems, ziprasidone and sertindol will probably not be released). Health Canada just is funded that well to keep up with the demand for new drug release.Back in the late 1950s (I believe, or was it early 1960s?) the Canadian government was burned by an antinauseant they approved for pregnant women (thalidomide). This drug ended up costing the government quite a bit of money. Once bitten, twice shy. A drug entering Canada now must be proven safe. Our requirements are very strict. The Canadian government will ask for more testing to be done, even if the drug has proven it's mettle in the rest of the world.
That being said, Adderal may be approved for emergency release if requested by your doctor. Some drugs require only a form to be filled out. You usually have to have failed on all other therapies first.
Hope this helps (I know it won't) - Cam W.

First off stop beating yourself up. I am SURE all of us ADDult ADDers with ADD kids have often wanted to try our kids meds before getting them ourself. I know I would have except with my ADD I also have extreme anxiety and I am sure I would have talked myself into having a heart attack by taking just one (even though now I take 40mg/day and feel I need a slight increase or to ADD a second dose in the afternoon).
Also you should BLAME your G.P. who has done nothing to help you. Very often children with ADD have one or two parents with ADD (it IS hereditary). Talk to your son's doc and see if he can refer you to a Psych who treats ADDults with ADD.
Most new research shows you probably NEVER grow out of it. Keep looking for a reliable Psych. and do not be afraid to share "why" you think this med will be right for you. You could say it was a bad day and out of despiration to find a cure for how out of control your life is (impulsiveness is a BIG symptom of ADD and they will recognise it as one)
Say you took one pill and noticed a change as you described. They cannot put you in jail for only taking one (a few) and if you are seeking help. I would not take anymore though. You can build up a tolerance and could maybe lower the effectiveness when you do start taking it on a daily basis.
I wish you luck and remember to never give up. It took me almost a year between my self-diagnosis to get an "official" one and put on meds (we only have 1 Psych in area to treat ADDults).
Let us know how things are going now that it's been a few weeks...

my daughter is 8 yrs. of age and she has been on 2 kinds of meds. Today, I started her on adderall 10mg. when she came home from school she was very hateful to me. and then she would come to me and want in my lap and and snuggle. had mood swings all evening, now it is past her bed time and she will not go to sleep. it is making me worry about the future. has anyone had a sucess with a young child that is on this med. without complcations. please reply back to me, because I worry about this sort of thing. thanks so much!
