I took 200 mg for a few months. It didn't do a thing. No SEs, either. I think you need to combine it with something else for it to be effective.

I achieved more consistent mood once I hit 300 mg. Actually, my therapist noticed the difference even more than I did. The depression has still been *quite* severe at times. I need AD augmentation, but I don't seem to hit the same levels of bristly agitation that I had in the past.

It's not a bad drug in terms of SEs. Don't be discouraged if you don't hit pay dirt at 100 mg, or if you feel better and it fades and you have to increase. The therapeutic range seems to be huge.

I did have SEs during start-up that went away. I felt fluish, and "off" for a couple of weeks - nothing too awful - I went to work and all. And I had tight, painful shoulder and neck muscles for a couple of weeks. I went for a few massages and by then my body had adjusted. I don't mean to scare you or anything. You may have no SEs at all - most people seem to tolerate it well. But if you do notice anything, it should resolve okay.

I take it. I didn't get any side effects from it (which is rare for me!) Just be on the lookout for the rash. I am sure you have read about it already. My pdoc told me if it was going to show up that it would show up in my mouth first.

I have experienced great success on Lamictal.
I was crippled by depression last autumn, and was unable to take any exams at university. I tried cipralex (lexapro) and effexor without success. I started lamictal, and a couple of weeks after having reached 200 mg, I experienced total relief, and I'm now back on track with studying and social life. Few side effects, I experienced some headache and nausea in the beginning, but that came to an end. The only side effect i experience now is a slight hand tremor.

Best wishes, Geir from Norway

Hello,

I'm interested in answers to your question as well, since I will probably be going on some sort of mood stabiliser-have been trying to get as much information about them as I can before I see my psychiatrist at the end of the month. I've never tried it-the only mood stabiliser I've been on is carbamazepine 200mg daily with Lexapro. It was added for irritability and for mood leveling-didn't help much. Seemed to increase my appetite, but was hoping it was the answer since the side effect profile was acceptable to me.

From what I've read about Lamictal, it is helpful at start, then effects fade until next dose increase, this happens until you reach a high enough theraputic dose where it levels out.

Here is some rx info. about lamotrigine:

I currently take 400 mg of Lamictal per day. Until I reached the therapeutic dose (for me), I felt no relief from my depressive symptoms. Since having reached the dose, I feel incredibly good and well-balanced.

As long as you don't have terrible side effects, it's worth sticking it out until you reach a therapeutic dose.

Good luck!

Thanks all
