Have rebound depression during withdrawal?

Posted by CarolW on January 12, 2004, at 9:33:34

I feel that I have more depression since getting off of the Zoloft two weeks ago than I had when I was on it. I have weirdly depressing thoughts that I didn't have before. Anyone else have this happen in getting off of the meds?

Going off an antidepressant can often cause the depression to come back. You should probably go back on an AD, if not Zoloft, then something else.

Best wishes.

Hi,

I took Prozac for almost 4 years. When I stopped taking it I experienced no withdrawl symptoms and felt fine for several years. (Note: when I tried getting back on Prozac it wasn't nearly as effective as the first time I took it. I've heard this is very common with AD's.)

I agree with Carol that you might want to look in to getting on another med. Although, before you do that you might see if your depressing thoughts don't taper off because it is entirely possible that you are going through withdrawl. But don't wait too long before you talk to your doc because as you probably know, depression is horrible to live with. Good luck.

K.
