Is Luvox activating?

Posted by ian24 on December 25, 2003, at 21:53:30

I stopped 15 mg a day lexapro two days ago and started on 100 mg luvox. I feel aggitated and tense and headachey. Is this withdawal from lex or side affects of luvox? I feel like Im withdrawing . I really want to switch bc compulsive stuff but I dont feel good. Is this temporary?I'm also on 1.5 mg of klonopin a day.

It would be hard to deduce exactly what is going on. Perhaps you are experiencing an interaction between the two SSRIs. I wouldn't come to any conclusions. If your blood-pressure is OK and you are not running a temperature, I would guess that it is safe to proceed and hope that the things you are experiencing are startup side effects that will soon disappear.

What you did is a prime example of what shouldn't be done. So many people start a new med without letting the old one leave the system completly or by coming off too quickly. Perhaps you should go back onto the lexapro and wean yourself off of it. Then when you start the Luvox you will know what is causing the side effects. I found Luvox to be very sedating.

Good luck to you. I hope you feel better soon.

I think you are right. The symptoms probably are due to withdrawal from Lexapro. If they have already begun to dissipate, it might make sense to just continue with the switch. I've always managed discontinuing a medication by weaning at a rate that just barely prevents withdrawal symptoms. I pretty much use smaller and smaller amounts of the drug as a PRN. I have had no problems splitting pills or dividing capsules. I have withdrawn from Effexor and benzodiazepines several times this way.

Day 3 of cold turkey lex to luvox and I feel better. Guess it is withdrawl from lex but goes away after only a few days bc i am replacing it with an ssri. Anyway my doc always says just switch in one day. Maybe he's wrong.
