I am hoping there is someone here who can answer some questions for me
1. What body authorizes meds in Canada?
2.Why are there meds that are available in the U.S. and not Canada.
3. Will those meds eventually become available in Canada.
4. Do you know if there is somewhere on the web that has a list of meds waiting for approval in Canada (I know there is one for the U.S.)?
I am frustrated that there are meds that I cannot try. I am med resistent and I would like the opportunity to at least try some of the new meds out there. If I had the money I would go to the U.S. and see a pdoc there and buy my meds there. But at this point I do not have the funds to do so.I hope someone has answers to my questions.
Thanks.
Maxime

Hi There:
I can't answer all your questions but I can give you the Canadian Health products and food branch. You can find the drugs that have been newly approved and any that have been approved for awhile.

Hey, I'm in the same boat that you are. I've been waiting forever for lexapro to come out. But they sure do take there jolly sweet time don't they.
Where do you live in Canada?
What drug are you waiting for ??

Hi Linkadge and Maxime.
I know this last post was for Maxime, but I couldn't help relating to it. I too was waiting for Lexapro, but gave up and am now trying effexor. I have only been on it for 4 weeks, but I don't think I like it much, I certainly don't like it as much as Celexa. But Celexa made me too tired and upset my stomach too much, so that is why I was waiting for Lexapro.
It really bugs me too, that Staterra, Lexapro and a few other are out in the States but not here in Canada. And yes I know we have some med's that the states doesn't. But the newer ones seem to be bypassing us. I know once Estorra comes out in the states, approx Feb 28, I will be buying it from an american pharmacy, which really pisses me off, because I have extended medical here and wouldn't have to pay half the cost I will have to pay down there.
So I understand your frustration, and I wonder if they are just understaffed, but whatever the reason it sucks for us in Canada anxiously awaiting some relief.

Hey there. I don't know if this is the case in Canada, but Lexapro will never come out in Europe because the requirements to bring a drug to market are different. Forest pharmaceuticals won't bother to market Lexapro there because the European FDA (the EMEA) has different expectations for what a drug should show. The EMEA basically views Lexapro as just Celexa.

Jaynee, thanks for the link.
I am waiting for Abilify to become available in Canada. Also, I would like to try lexapro.
It's just really frustrating because I am med resistent so I have run out of things to try here in Canada.
I guess no system is perfect.
