I'm going to start tomorrow Imipramine to target ADHD-like syntoms. Does anyone have direct experiences about TCAs and ADHD ?

Hi Francesco,I have ADD (along with recurrent major depression/dysthymia).
Once I'd brought my depression to heel, I decided to tackle my (then undiagnosed) attention difficulties with some noradrenergic agents.
I tried Imipramine and Lofepramine- both improved my attention span, but unfortunately sparked irritability, to which I'm prone anyhow.
Amantadine was far better in this respect, and my (dopamine assisted) 'focus' improved dramatically. It didn't help my depression though, to say the least.
Provigil, Wellbutrin or even Deprenyl have been used off-label with moderate success, and I intend testing out some of these prior to a stim.Best,
MJ.

As you probably remember I've taken nortriptyline for the last year and a half to combat, among other things, ADHD. I noticed improvements in attention within a week via indirect evidence (i.e. my writing became clearer).
Good luck with the imipramine.z

I'm also on a mood stabilizer now so irritability shouldn't be a big issue (I hope).> Amantadine was far better in this respect, and my (dopamine assisted) 'focus' improved dramatically. It didn't help my depression though, to say the least.
What do you mean by (dopamine assisted) 'focus' ?
Is focus different from concentration ?> Provigil, Wellbutrin or even Deprenyl have been used off-label with moderate success, and I intend testing out some of these prior to a stim.
>I just tried Wellbutrin of the above and let's say it didn't work. It made me real angry and spaced out but of course this doesn't mean it won't work for you.
Best Wishes

Hi Zeugma,
yes, I remeber you were on nortiptyline but I can't remember how many mgs you take per day.
I'm very interested in dosage because I'm trying to reach the maximum effect with the minimal dosage (since I don't seem to have depression issues). The improvement of handwriting is very realiable, one of the reason why I'm studying graphology is to check out how the meds affect me : )

I take 75 mg a day. Suggested dose ranges for nortriptyline are somewhat lower than for most other TCA's.

I'm on Imipramine and have ADD. I started it for depression and anxiety, but I guess it has helped my ADD/ADHD symptoms alot also. Life has seemed to slow down and my thoughts don't keep me up at night. I spent a month @ 50mgs. Didn't get any results until we bumped it up to 100mg daily. My quality of sleep has improved considerably (I save 50mg to take at night w/50mg - 100mg of Trazadone.
I also take Effexor, 150mg daily. They work well together for me. Warning: It can keep you yawning all day so be careful when you take it.
Good Luck,
