Remeron Cessation and Hives

Posted by KarmaFairy on December 18, 2003, at 9:34:05

I've been tapering off Remeron for a couple of weeks now, (took 30 mg for 6 years) and I'm experiencing hives. I read that Remeron has properties similar in effect to anti-histamines; is this just my body's response to the rebounding histamines? Has anyone else experienced this?

Just curious why are you quitting Remeron? How much weight did you gain while on it? Did you have any sexual SE's? I'm taking Paxil which works but hate the sexual almost impossible to ejaculate side effect. I was thinking about trying Remeron but doctor said I could but I would feel emotionally numb on it and gain weight. Your input would be appreciated.

I've been medicated since early adolescence
...and I don't really know how it is to not be medicated. I can't just accept that I will have to take these meds for the rest of my life - I must try without for a while.
I gained a significant amount of weight from the time I started taking the medications, but that could just be part of growing up. I must admit that I could eat less and exercize more.
I experienced no sexual side-effects...
To be completely honest, I can't vouch for the drug's efficacy, as I'm just not sure it helped...I'm not sure there was anything to help...
All drugs behave differently within our unique body chemistries. If you experience sexual side-effects from taking Paxil, I would recommend you analyze how deeply your depression impacts your life...is it as horrible as the side-effects of treatment?
