I just went to the doctor because I'd been feeling really anxious, sleeping a lot, etc.--classic depression and anxiety symptoms. I've never been diagnosed before, and he gave me Lexapro to try. I'm sure you guys have already addressed this somewhere on here, but has anyone gained weight from this drug? The depression already had me up fifteen pounds because of increased appetite, and the medicine has me back to normal where I'm motivated to lose it. I just want to make sure it's not hopeless to try!

I went from a size 10 to a 6 since starting Lex. Very happy about it because I was overweight and it needed to come off. My appetite went away when I started, but now has returned to normal. I still eat the way I used to, but I haven't gained the weight back. Have been on Lex since Feb.
Others though report that they gain weight on Lex. Hopefully you will be one of those who loses weight!
Good luck to you!~~~8|8

I put on a few pounds with Celexa, which is essentially Lexapro...but that was because I cared less about what I ate and exercise...not because of increased appetite or metabolism change

I'm taking Celexa, not Lexapro, but they are similar meds. I couldn't tell you if I've lost weight (I don't have a scale in my bathroom), but I've certainly cut down on eating! I just don't have the desire to munch all the time. Some days I actually have to make myself eat something because I've forgotten to! Lol!

>I am taking Lexapro 10mg/day for over 2 months now. The first month I experienced a rather disturbing weight gain even though I wasn't eating any more. After bringing this up with my doctor, he put me also on Wellbutrin 150mg/day to help with this side effect. I've been on the Wellbutrin since 11/6/2003 and the weight is slowly, but surely coming off. My appetite has been curtailed. But then again, every person's experience might be different.
