Help! Started 30mg Remeron 2 weeks ago and feel like body and mind are under a lead blanket. Dr. increased to 45mg saying that increased dose lessens side effects. Anyone have experience with this drug? Does the fatigue lessen over time?

>Does the fatigue lessen over time?
-----It did for me. I've been on 30mg for a few months now, and the sedation is about 30% of what it used to be. I get the best use of the sedation by taking it ~90 minutes before bedtime.

Eddie,
Did you find that the increase in appetite lessened also?

Increasing dose counters the sedation, because the histamine effect essentially stays the same, while norepinephrine output increases. Try 60mg, that's what I was on and actually had MORE energy on it than before Remeron. I felt great and could wake up early! It's a paradoxical effect.

> Did you find that the increase in appetite lessened also?
-----It's a funny thing. I literally eat the exact same things every day, so I know that I wasn't eating more than before, yet I gained about 15 lbs. It took about 6 weeks to gain that weight, and then it tapered off, leaving me at my current weight (140) for the last month or so. Given that I'm 5'10", I really needed the weight, anyway.
I think that the gain is mainly due to the calming effect Remeron has on my digestive tract. I'd been suffering off and on for many years from pain and bloat, etc, (IBS) which stymied 3 doctors and defied many drugs. Lo and behold, remeron quickly sets things straight.

Hi,Guys I've been on Remeron (30MG)for about 6 weeks and have put on 5 pounds and 1" to my waste line. I'm not to keen on this AD so far.I kinda feel dead emotion wise. Anxiety is up a notch or 2. The sedation in the morning seems the same .Takes me a hour or so to snap to. I'm not sure if increasing dosage is for me. Talk to me.

Hello Rtop,
Remeron along with prozac and lamictal has helped relieve my unipolar depression. I noticed that when remeron was added about 6 months ago that I gained weight. I know it is the combination of prozac and remeron because when I was on prozac only, I gained some but not like when remeron was added. I have gained 20 lbs over the six month period.
Recently, I slowly titrated remeron and finally was off of it as I did not want to continue gaining weight. However, in two days my depression came back big time. Needless to say I am back up to 60mg remeron and I may have to titrate up to 90mg with my pdoc's blessings.
Lamictal was the key to the dramatic lifting of my depression as I noticed it in my 6th week in taking lamictal.
Now in my 8th week, I am depression free. I am on 100mg prozac, 60mg remeron and 300mg lamictal.
Bottomline is remeron is an effective A/D when taken with other A/D's, but weight gain is a side effect along with sedation.
Hope this helps you.

I took it for 7 months, despite the enormous appetite increase. I found it sedating at any dose, but in the long term, higher doses tended to be more sedating. In the short term, higher doses tended to be less sedating. Go figure. It took me about a week to get used to the sedation and then I felt fine during the day--which is weird, since I can't even take a Tylenol PM without being zonked for 24 hours.
Wellbutrin helped with the appetite increase but after gaining 15 pounds with no end in sight I went off Remeron and really miss the deep sleep.

Forget it! After only 3 weeks of a walking coma and my father telling me at Thanksgiving dinnner that "You sure are getting fat." I give up on Remeron. I think I'm going to jump back on the whirling wheel of AD's and see what else I can find.>

Are you taking Wellbutrin by itself?
