Started Effexor

Posted by Red_Rach on November 18, 2003, at 22:20:34

I took my fifth effexor last night. Basically I have OCD and have been taking prozac since I was around 15. Just recently the prozac didnt seem to be having the same effect as previously and the doctor suggested I stop taking prozac (20-40mg) and start Effexor 75mg.
The main effects I have felt have been Thirst, sweats and Insomnia. But on day 3 and 4 and felt significantly more anxious and nervous that normal. Thinking things that I havnt even thought about since the days when my panic attacks were at there worst (When I was 15).
I dont know if my body is withdrawing from the prozac, but at the moment I am seriously considering taking a prozac (20mg) as I am sick of feeling down in the dumps.
Is this a good idea or will I end up with this serotonin syndrome? and if I did stick with effexor how long is this nervous/anxious feeling likley to last because its driving me mad!!!!
Im just looking for any good advice because I just want to feel like I did a month or so back when prozac seemed to be working fine!!!!

Any help appreciated,
Rachel

Give it a week. When I was on Effexor, the first week I felt terrible, like I was on a bad drug trip. Once my body adjusted to it I felt normal

I agree. Effexor was a great med for me except that it gave me insomnia. I eventually quit for that reason. If you're having problems with anxiety while you're adjusting to the new med, give yourself a break by taking an Ativan or Xanax every now and then. One can only take so much severe anxiety.

I react badly to drugs and so far, effexor is the best tolerated. I know about the anxiety, it's still pretty bad for me. If it doesn't go away, you might want to talk to your pdoc about adding a neuroleptic or something. A word to the wise, for most people adding an SSRI with Effexor is a very, very bad idea.
