I have really bad anxiety issues and I have taken all of the SSRI's, and Luvox seemed to work and the others didnt work at all. Does anyone in here find Luvox to be more superior or any different than any of the other SSRI's - besides just chemistry? I take 300 mgs Luvox for GAD, OCD, SAD, and Tourettes. One med for 4 different disorders. Thats crazy, but it works for me great! Ive even tried most the benzo's including the infamous Klonopin and none of them work like Luvox. Anyone had any success with Luvox and anyone know how it could be so different than any of the other SSRI's?

Glad the Luvox is working out so well for you! I tried it once and found it to be, without a doubt, the strongest of the SSRIs in my experience. It was far too overpowering for me though. Prozac is much more gentle, I think.

>Great to hear! I'm not a big SSRI fan by any means, but I believe Luvox is the best one- especially for OCD.

That is awesome. How are the side effects, especially compared to other SSRIs? Could you say if the anorgasmia is any better or worse with Luvox than the others?

Hi There,
I am on Luvox again now, too. It's helping (third time on it in three years). Recently started with 100mg. and am titrating up slowly because of my anxiety. Luvox can be a bit tough on anxiety sufferers, a little aggitating.
Have been off and on it for about three years. I have tried EVERYTHING for my severe GAD, depression, obsessive thoughts, and resulting inability to get even the most mundane household tasks done.
Luvox and Xanax seem to work the best for me.
I know everyone is tired of hearing about Effexor withdrawal but that's one I'll never take again. Upon tapering down, I had intense shakes (legs and shoulders), hot flashes, migraines, vomitting, cried almost CONSTANTLY, was scared to death the whole month is took me to taper. Thought it was wicked my wicked Gad but it was the withdrawal. Screwed my ALWAYS normal regular menstrual cycle up, too, which was weird. Actually started wondering if it was early menopause--hot flashes, ect., (I was only 37 yrs. old).
Even tried to check into a psych hospital but insurance wouldn't pay b/c I was neither suicidal nor homocidal--just terrified and in enormous psychological pain. Thanks Medicare and Blue cross. :(
Besides, my pdoc said they would just hold my hand anyway, I still had to go through the "discontinuation syndrome" (withdrawal). Might as well do that in the comfort (?) of my own home. Was just very hard since I am the single mother of a five yr. old. Had to send her to Dad's or Grandma's a few different times.
Effexor XR did help my GAD for a few months--at a cost. My awakening terror in the morning disappeared, but the sweats and hot flashes were hard to take. Freezing cold one minute, burning up the next. I even had Botox injections under my arms to stop the intense sweating. It was embarrassing.
I wish you luck on your Luvox. It does help me see the tiniest bit of "light" which I am willing to take at this point. Helps me with nasty nail biting, getting a few things done for the holidays instead of being incapacitated, and keeps some of those terribly painful thoughts at bay. I've had a very hard life and Luvox helps me not dwell on bad things that have happened to me. I am sick of being a victim and obsessing on how sorry I feel for myself.
Another added bonus of Luvox--not a weight gainer (for me, anyway).
