I finally decided to ditch the CBT. It's done nothing for my anxiety other than to make it easier to stand with people in elevators. Wait a minute, I was in an elevator today, and I felt anxious.... OK, it's made it easier to stand near certain people in certain elevators, but only at certain times. A paltry result from four months of weekly therapy and too many panicked phone sessions to count. I finally told my OTHER therapist (a neuropsychologist) that I was giving up, and she knows all about my anxiety (she's had to clean up a lot of the mess the CBT has caused, since many of those panicked phone sessions were with her). She got up in the middle of the session, called my pdoc, and asked him to write me a script for Klonopin. He readily agreed as I have no drug abuse history.
What made this more urgent is that I have just started a demanding new job, and I won't have TIME to have these endless crises with anxiety. Not to mention I will have to deal with many more people, and I can't afford the problems that social phobia's always caused me when interacting with the public.
Hopefully I'll get my Klonopin script on Thursday.

Ive heard a few people say CBT has done nothing for them, thats mostly why I havent tried it myself. Klonopin, thats great for anxiety right? ah, only wish they would prescribe it here!

I too wasted time and money on CBT. The psychologist even went so far as to claim a lot of experience with severely depressed people. After 10 weeks, which is the period they quote as necessary for results, I had no relief from my depression. Nor would the therapist offer any estimate as to how much longer the CBT would take.

Hey there -
I've mentioned it on here before, but my pdoc told me that they could teach monkeys to do CBT.
I had a really unsympathetic nurse who didn't even get me through the first session.
Maybe it can be helpful in certain circumstances, but it is about learning to deal with life - whereas I for one *can* deal with life thankyouverymuch but just really don't want to.

I got my prescription for Klonopin today. 0.25 mg in the morning, another 0.25 mg in the afternoon (if needed). I am really hoping this will help the visceral anxiety I get in others' presences, because my new job requires a LOT of interaction plus a lot of initiative and assertion on my part. I wish I didn't need more meds, I feel like I already excrete enough psychotropics to render the entire frog population sterile (lol) but my anxiety is just so f*ing unpleasant and it spoils interpersonal contact. Even if things go OK in terms of dealing with others, I still feel anxious!
A longtime anxiety sufferer hoping for some relief,
z

I definitely think that the drug companies should work on finding some new anti-anxiety medications, there just arent enough good ones, and Antidepressants suck.......
Good Luck, hope the Klonopin work for you
