I cant f#$%@ stand this

Posted by jonh kimble on November 7, 2003, at 1:59:36

Ok, it started with social anxiety maybe 5 years ago (age 14) This has gotten worse, which has led to depression, which has led to generalized anxiety, which has led to attentional difficulties ect...

This was pretty unbarable say 2 months ago, but just recently (within 3 weeks) my brother, and one of the few close people in my life has been diagnosed with potentially fatal cancer. Now I completely understand that this would cause pain in anyone, but I am in complete horror!!! I feel like I am having a heart attack all the time(extreme chest pain) and I cannot comprehend even the simplest of sentences, to name 2 of many unbearable symptoms (i also havent slept in 2 nights). Ive wanted to write this for weeks, but this is the first time I dont feel like Im loosing my mind, considering Ive been dringking tongiht. I need something to keep me above water, cause IM drowning!! Please help, Ill be dead if something doesnt change.

John, I'm so sorry. Go see your doctor. Quickly. There are times for medical intervention, and I see this as one of those times.

Good luck,
Lar

john -
iam sorry to hear about your pain. we are or have been there more than once.
please go talk to your doctor, please be honest with him/her and get some meds., to help you out of the black hole you seem to be sinking in.
it will help! and then you can be there to help with support for your brother.
be strong - you wrote to the right place. we're all praying for you!

John,

My wife and I had a traumatic experience that lingered over a month. We both
ended up with what is called "sever reactive depression". We both could not
sleep. Fortunately, we both had seen doctors in the past and knew who to call.

If you don't have a psychiatrist, find one TODAY. For me, the greatest thing was
getting meds to help me sleep. Even if you feel crappy all day, after a
nights sleep it is more tolerable. Your doc may prescribe anti-depressants.
These do take time to work (in fact I'm still waiting for mine to kick in) but
at least you will make it through the night.

Good Luck!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, and wish I could just point and click and fix things for you... My advice is go see your pdoc, and be honest. If you can afford it, go see a therapist as well.

Take care,
Jon :)

I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. Major life events are a hundred, a thousand times harder to endure when you have any kind of affective mood disorder. Most 'ordinary' people just don't understand that. That's why we're here. :-/

I have an idea of how you're feeling....I lost my mom a few years ago. The problem with dealing with a life-threatening illness in someone we're very close to is not only the possibility of losing that person, but also the fact that it forces us to face our own mortality as well. That's the hardest thing of all.

I don't have any answers for you. I wish I did. I still miss my mom and I always will. I hope your brother is able to defeat this illness. It can be done, you know. My mother survived cancer TWICE before this last illness took her. She was one tough lady. I wish I had just half of her strength.

Anyway.....just wanted you to know that someone is listening, and understands (maybe a little).
