I'm taking 12.5mg regular Adderall twice each day. Get peak affect at 1.5 hours and can work normally and focus for about 1.5 hours after peak. Then very irritable.
I've taken Adderall XR and the cycle is less extreme, but after about 6 hours, very angry (much, much more irritable.)
Any idea how to proceed?

I take a larger daily dose of Adderall than you, but the way i take it is in 3 parts: the largest portion first, then less and less again lastly. The time between doses extend longer each time, too.
i'm sorry, that seems a little confusing, no?
Example:
20mg @ 8am
10mg @ 12noon
5mg @ 5pmThe transition from benefit to 'wearing-off' is very gentle and i do not experience the anger this way.

I can feel your pain! I'm currently on 40-60 mg of Adderall XR daily. I usually take 40 but doc wants me to take 60. Anyhow, around 4-5 every day, approx 7 hours after I take Adderall Xr I want to kill someone. I start snapping peoples head off for asking how my day was. It's horrible. I saw my doc yesterday and he prescribed 10 mg of Focalin to take at 3:30 every afternoon. I just started today so I can't say just how it's going to go, but maybe your doc would consider putting you on something else for later in the day. Good luck!

Focalin is the new Ritalin med. It's the D isomer of Ritalin ( I think). Kinda how Lexapro is the D isomer of Celexa. I'm not sure about isomers or which one is the righ tone, but the new Focalin is supposed to be the "good" part of Ritalin. Less side effects, more potent. I'll keep you posted on it. Yesterday I wasn't impressed, but it is still soon.

I never had tried Ritalin before Adderall. To update you. I am so unimpressed with this Focalin! I don't feel like it helps at all and when it starts to wear off a couple hours after taking it, I'm so much worse (anger wise) than if I hadn't taken it at all. I even doubled and trippled the med to see if a higher dose would be better. Nothing. As a matter of fact about 40 minutes after taking it today I fell into a deep sleep! Might be useful for that! Let me know if you find any other solutions.

So sorry about this update. My pdoc and I talked about the possibility of trying Provigil, but not sure what I wanna do yet. Good luck and keep us updated of any developments!
