Hi there! I was so happy to find this board! I'm going through Effexor withdrawal right now and I guess I just need to hear that yes, the pain will go away!! I am into my second week of being Effexor free. I tapered off very slowly, but I still suffered big time... the main problems are: "brain zaps" (ugh! so awful!), a HUGELY increased sex drive that I can't quite understand... my sex drive wasn't very badly affected by taking effexor... but for some reason, while being off it completely, in these past two weeks, my sex drive has skyrocketed to the point of almost being embarrassing. I wake up from sleep usually always at the point of (sorry... like I said, this is embarrassing) climax. It's not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but it's very very strange and a little confusing, to say the least. Has anyone else experienced this? Another thing... any details I find about Effexor seem to imply that weight gain is NOT a risk of taking it. However, I gained 20 lbs. while on it. Yes, I've made bad food choices, but certainly nothing different than I was doing before, and in fact, I work out much more often than I ever did before... partly to combat the weight gain I was experiencing, to no avail. Needless to say, this was very puzzling and troubling. Has anyone else experienced weight gain from taking Effexor? WILL THIS WEIGHT GO AWAY? I have a history of having anorexia and the dr. specifically put me on Effexor saying that the risk of weight gain was very very slim to nil, because I basically refused to go on anything that would cause me to gain weight. And yet here I am, 20 lbs later. I'm curious to see if I will indeed lose the weight now.
I am also suffering from some lethal headaches in addition to the rest of all this. Plus I always just feel so dizzy... I am so sick of feeling ill. I will be hard pressed to ever go on Effexor again.
Thanks so much for being out there! Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!!

I am Effexor free, finally! I stopped taking it within two months of starting because of what I read about the nasty withdrawals. It was a rough ride that lasted about 3 weeks to a month. I had daily head aches and could not find my center. I am male and did have some interesting sexual transitions. My sex drive was held ransome by effexor and when it was released I had some catching up to do! Perhaps Dr. Bob might consider opening an effexor wthdrawl dating- babble!
Oh well, you are far from dead! Drink a lot of water and keep up exercise routine. Good luck !
