when ssri's first came out starting with prozac, scientists believed they only affected serotonin and no other neurotransmitters....many of the side effects, esp. sexual side effects, are now seen as a depletion or reduction in dopamine due to the rise of serotonin.
this is my question....is there anyway to overcome this dopamine problem by taking other drug(s) or supplements?
i am currently taking 300mg effexor xr. and 450mg of wellbutrin sr. daily. i have heard that effexor, at higher doses like i am taking, also block the reuptake of dopamine.
also every morning on an empty stomach i take 1500mg. of l-tyrosine which is a precursor to dopamine and norepenephrine. i take a men's multi-vitamin that includes extra b-vitamins too
is there anything else i can do to boost dopamine levels? i am very interested in hearing what other people are doing to overcome this problem and also hear your opinion's

There has been some research that ginko-biloba(I know I didn't spell that right) has helped with sexual disfunction.

hey yeah thanks...i remember hearing on discovery health channel...how ginko increases blood flow to the brain and "down there." i tried yohimbine before but when i take it, i get flu-like styptoms for a few hours. strange, and my luck, yohimbine is the only thing i have ever taken that caused side effects like that. all other drugs i take extra dosage than normal to feel little(if any) results.
gonna try that thanks

Wellbutrin and l-tyrosine should be giving you a nice boost in dopamine. If you have trouble still you could go with something even more potent like Adderall or Ritalin, though doctors aren't always open to that.

yeah past couple days i have been feeling really good..and taking testosterone therapy for sex drive. i wish i could afford a psychiatrist so i could combine my meds with a stimulant..i have heard that the combination works very well. when i do use methaphetamine..i feel more focused, more driven...i don't get that high everyone talks about..it actually relaxes me, sounds strange huh

How about Parkinsons due to dopamine depletion over long-term...Now that's a scary prospect...
