Has anyone had transcranial magnetic stimulation at the Mindcare Centre in Vancouver? I`m a little suspicious about the doctors people have mentioned in Atlanta and Chicago who do TMS on their own-I don`t see how this can be legal since it`s not FDA approved for use outside studies in the U.S. It apparently has been approved in Canada and this centre does it-anyone have any experience with them? I went to the rTMS outpatient clinic (Mind Care) in Vancouver and found every element professional. Two doctors independently recommended it to me, and I found the staff very professional.
Health Canada has approved the method ahead of the US's FDA, which is unusual. I would not hesitate to recommend this place.
I will add that I personally had no benefit from the treatment, but I know it can be very effective for many.

Did your insurance cover this? Did this make you worse or just have no effect whatsoever?
Also, are you left-handed by any chance?
Sorry about all the questions, I have just been fascinated by this for so long now and am completely convinced this is the treatment for me. Gotta keep the hope alive!I was going to be involved in a study at the University of Washington a few years ago and I met every criteria except for the fact that I was left-handed. It had something to do with the (left?)frontal cortex which I believe is the side of the head they administer the treatment to.
Apparently, if you are left-handed they don't know what side of the head affects your moods and could actually make you worse.I would imagine there would be someway to tell which side the moods reside in?

I do not have insurance to cover this treatment. I paid $3000 (Canadian dollars) for a series of fifteen treatments (weekdays for three weeks).
I am not left handed. You are correct that the treatment is on the left side of your forehead. I do wonder if treatment on the right side, or both sides, would have provided a benefit. I know that ECT applied to both sides, rather than one, can make a big difference.

I know different places that are studying TMS use different intensities, frequencies etc. to learn what type of stimulation works best. At the Mindcare Centre do they vary the type of stimulation depending on your response or does everyone get the same? Have you tried a lot of meds and has anything worked? It definitely would be worth a lot more than $3000 if it worked! I tend to be pretty cynical though. I`ve tried so many meds without success. I`m sorry the TMS didn`t work for you. Cecilia
