Doc just called with my blood test results.. Everything seems to be OK, but she wants me to return in a week if there is no change.
I'm gonna press for a new thyroid test, and make sure I find out the results (in the past I've just been fobbed off with "its borderline, but OK" but I have found a nice doc now who I could talk to)
I can't carry on feeling like this. I really can't. Sleep has been OK past 3 nights.. But I'm taking triple dose of anti histamine tablets *promethazine hydrochloride) to knock me out, and I know I mustn't do that for too long.
Seeing pdoc tomorrow.. will see what he has to say about it.
I've got a very messy kitchen to clean up, and a huge pile of washing up.. but being in the kitchen makes me retch and I hate that so much.. but I promised my husband I would do it today, and I don't want him shouting at me again. (Though I think he felt guilty after Thursday nights blow up at me and he bought me a new sexy digital camera!!.. didn't stop saturday or sundays shouting though)
Oh well, back to the kitchen

Hi, Nikki,
I'm really glad your blood tests were fine, although I'm sure it kind of makes it more frustrating as to what's causing your discomfort....
Really odd. I'm no help at all, but I'm thinking about you.

I know it's both a relief and a frustration, and I am both relieved and frustrated with you. I read a website once on IBS and it said that sometimes just knowing that there's nothing wrong can make a patient feel better. I thought, odd what doctor's think make you feel better. "You're having pain and distress but there's no way we can fix it because technically there's nothing wrong." Yeah, works for me.
However, if it keeps up, keep pushing your doctor. You can't go on this way.
And I'm not *in any way* comparing your situation to hers, but I remember in Gilda Radner's autobiography she kept insisting something was wrong while her doctors kept insisting there wasn't. Sometimes we know ourselves well enough to hold to our convictions.
Good luck, and put your husband on line sometimes. I have a few choice words for him. Hmmmm... better make it off-Babble. Not sure they'd fit the civility guidelines. (P.S. Next time he has you clean the kitchen when you're unwell, throw up *on* him. It might cure him of not believing you.)

Yes, I know all too well the frustration of the blood tests coming back 'normal' - but have also discovered that what one doc (my gp) thinks is normal, another doc (my pdoc) thinks is a problem. That's been the case with my iron levels - my gp saw no problem, but my pdoc saw that they were 'borderline' and proceeded to tell me about problems that can arise due to low iron. So, I am now taking iron supplements. He is also the one who put me on thyroid medication - my TSH levels were fine, but my free T3 and T4 weren't. My gp didn't show any concern.
Make sure when you have the thyroid tests that they check your free T3 and free T4 as well - a normal TSH level doesn't mean anything necessarily. You may still need a thyroid supplement.
And I agree with Dinah - as long as you feel something is wrong, continue to look for answers. I guess that goes for both of us.

I have the opposite problem to Penny. I have hemochromatosis. I absorb too much iron from my diet. This was causing me alot of problems. My blood tests kept coming back "perfect" too. It wasn't until I asked for the proper test and then the genetic test, did I get the proper diagnosis and help. The sad part about hemochromatosis, is that the problems it causes can be avoided if diagnosed at an early age.
I don't know what your symptoms are, but I do know that sometimes not all the blood tests that can be done, have been done. And then sometimes your doc doesn't know how to read the blood tests properly. So it is important to get more than one opinion and look up on the internet your symptoms and of course ask for a copy of your results and look up what the results mean yourself. Remember that you have a right to see all the information in your health record that pertains to you. So ask for copies.
I never gave up asking for help, because I knew something was wrong, and I am very fortunate to have finally been given a proper diagnosis, but mostly only because I wouldn't go away and kept looking for an answer and researched stuff on my own.
Good luck, I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
ps. never take an iron supplement without having your serum iron, TIBC, and ferritin done. Taking an iron supplement without truly being low in iron is lethal. To much Iron feeds bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc and increases your chances of cancer.
This is the end of the thread.
