hmmm... maybe it was a spontaneous crisis?

i don't know if this is right, but a nurse told me that the lower number (diastolic?) is the most important, and as long as it's below 100 you shouldn't worry (but i could be completely wrong here)

good luck

cybercafe (2 days to parnate!)

Everything you ate is fine, unless it was starting to spoil? Was the milk fresh?

I wouldn't consider a blood pressure reading like that to be indicative of a hypertensive crisis. And besides, none of the foods you ate can be implicated in the spike. If I were you, I would have my blood pressure monitored regularly--perhaps you're just coincidentally experiencing hypertension as a consequence of age, family history, etc.

I'm only 20 years old and my normal blood pressure is 120/70. I don't know if I can
condinue on parnate. Every time I take it
it's like my brain gets locked into a state
of fear, and my BP goes through the roof.

It seems like God is continually condemnming
me, so the only way I can help it is to
go around confessing everything to everybody.

I also can't stop crying.

A times I feel so suicidal.

Going to the psychiatrist this evening.

Your feelings of extreme guilt, as well as suicidal feelings, are common symptoms of depression.
But I guess I had you pegged wrong regarding the blood pressure.
By all means you should mention all of this to your doctor without delay.

Without considering the merits (?) of combining garlic and orange juice at breakfast, I'd have to ask the provenance of the garlic. Was it prepared fresh, or from a bottle? If the latter, it may well have been the subject of substantial bacterial action, and thus could be a possible source of pressor amines, such as tyramine.

The crying thing is normal if you're just starting to come out of the depression, and so are all the other emotions. That's a *good* sign -- ask for some non-pharmacologic help integrating those emotions into your life.

Try dividing the doses of Parnate equally around the clock, or even taking it all just before bed.

And quit measuring your BP after breakfast! Don't you have a job to go to or something? <g>

i'm sorry to hear all this, man. i thought you were doing well before. But yeah, i cried alot while on Parnate, too. It was terrible. The psychological pain & depression were tremendous. And Parnate kept showing me all too clearly the reality of my life (not that this is the case with you; just saying). Almost unbearable (sp?). i admit i was only on it for a little over a month, so maybe that was it, i duno. But i do much better on more "numbing" drugs like SSRIs and, especially, Nardil.

Yes, but if he doesn't feel like he's coming out of the depression then i doubt it's good-- it's just painful. That's how it was for me anyway.

PS: i have no idea what would have caused the hypertensive episode (if everything was fresh enough). Garlic should be fine. That's weird. That's another thing i hated about Parnate-- just a pinch of tyramine (or who knows what sometimes) and i'd get a hypertensive reaction. Freakin thing. Hopefully it gets better for you though.
