Hi there: I'm on Effexor XR 75mg (150mg makes the anxiety worse) and have been on this drug for a good few years now. My pdic has tried all number of things to help with the anxiety: clonazepam (Klonopin), beta blockers, alprazolam, blah, blah blah ...
Bottom line: The benzo's only give *mild* relief for anxiety at very high doses. By high I mean 8mg of Klonopin or 10 mg of alprazolam. It's like I'm "immune" to benzo's.
My pdoc is suggesting that we try Seroquel 25 mg at night for the anxiety. Has anyone elso used Seroquel for anxiety and what results (side-effects and clinical benefits) did you get?

i didn't think that 8mg Klonopin was a high dose at all. i'd have considered it low.
My experience with 25mg Seroquel for anxiety was disastrous.
It caused a pill-induced narcolepsy (sleeping disease) in me. Did not decrease the occurrence of immobilizing anxiety related to events, and when i took 1/2 as instructed during these events, it dropped me wherever i was. At 1/4 tab, i could barely keep my lids open, randomly. But it was great for creating immediate sleep at night, no matter what the other med's stimulation or HIGH anxiety about the damage it had done to my life that day.
There's a previous thread of 6-7 posts about Seroquel for anti-anxiety that you might want to peruse:

hi
I tried Seroquel for anxiety and mostly because I was suffering for a little pshychosis . I had good results , but I have found other medicines better to treat my anxiety that are a lot safer than seroquel
One important thing I want to tell you . AP drugs like Seroquel should not be used to treat anxiety at least It was the last option . Its kind of risky , no matter if is a low dose , I think you should better try to find anything else safer
This is my personal opinion
Hope this helps

oops messed up ...
anyway I was just going to add that I am taking a homeopathic dose of Seroquel (25-50 mg/day) for PTSD and that it has been quite helpful. It creeps up on you but the change has really been quite significant. As PTSD is sort-of anxiety, I thought I'd add my $.02.
Atypicals may be most useful for PTSD as far as subtypes of anxiety go; since PTSD flashbacks are sort of analogous to 'hallucinations' it makes sense that an AP might be helpful. I do get some mild sedation out of it but once this wears off after several days, I actually get more motivation.
For just standard anxiety (which I've had too), I'd rather take a daily homeopathic dose of klonopin (like those new .125 mg wafers) and then additional klonopin PRN. But that's just me.
This is the end of the thread.
