Hi anybody. I just started taking Effexor XR because the anti-libido side effect taking, even a very low dose, of Prozac is too much for me to bear. I understand this unfortunate side effect is not as bad on Effexor.
Can anyone pass any information on to me about this? This is a real concern for me.Thanks.

I took effexor for a while and did have some negative sexual side effects. I could achieve what resembled an erection, but climax was a difficult task.
I just switched to Zoloft, but expect more of the same. It could be a long cold winter!

Effexor flattened my mood and my libido. You might consider augmenting with a low dose of Wellbutrin - that seemed to counteract the negative libido effect for me.

Thanks both. I actually do take Wellbutrin; I took it for the same reason with Prozac -- hasn't seemed to help. I'm really hoping Effexor will be better for me in this area.
Anybody out there NOT have this side affect? (yikes!)

Hi,
My libido increased after 6 months..but my orgasms were numb...and takes a millenium to achieve one.
Adding prozac restored good orgasm but still takes a millenium.
Sex on efexor is better..I'm female. Guess it's different for boys.
Stick it out, see what happens~excuse the pun , all the best, have great sex.

That is funny! I am glad to hear that sex means a lot to so many people.
I guess the side effects of a.d.'s could be worse, something could fall off!
This is the end of the thread.
