LEXAPRO AM or PM

Posted by beppe3 on September 24, 2003, at 13:28:15

I've been on lex for 3 mo. taking 10mg in the PM. My doc upped my dose to 20 due to no response at 10. 2nd week on 20 and am sleeping poorly and constantly tired and anxious.
Has anyone changed the time they take lex after upping the dose?
What time of day do other people take Lexapro?
Thanks for any feedback!

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having a difficult time so far. Hopefully, it'll pass and get better for you.

Since starting Lex 11 weeks ago, I've been taking my dose in the evening. Once I adjusted to it, it worked well at that time.

I haven't upped my dose at all, but I'm considering changing the schedule of my dose, since I started working again in the mornings. So, I'm up much earlier than usual, and have been extremely fatiqued.

Anyway, it wouldn't hurt for you to play with the time of your dose. Good ole' trial and error. I asked this same question awhile back, and got some good feedback that suggested that sometimes you need to change your dose(time) according to your body's schedule. So, give it a try!

Let me know how it works for you. Good Luck, and hang in there!

I actually just started taking the lex about 9 days ago, but i take mine as soon as i leave for work in the morning at 7 am. But I am also on wellbutrion, for depression, so that kinda gives me more energy, ya know. But I havent noticed any change in my daily activities, same energy level.

I've been taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL a couple of months and my pdoc suggested adding 5mg of Lexapro which I started a couple of days ago. Did your doc seem to think this is a pretty good combo? If you're taking the Wellbutrin for depression, what did he prescribe the Lex for, just curious.

My doc perscribed me the lex for anxeity. WB is not a med to take for anxeity that is for my depression part..it kinda speeds ya up, and with the anxeity she thought that I needed something to kinda slow it down. so thats where the lex came in.. So far so good

beppe3, I too have had no results on 10 mg's of Lex so my doc upped my dose to 20 mg's 3 days ago. My first day on 20's I took it early in the day and within an hour I had a "yawn" attack. Couldn't stop yawning for abour 30 minutes. And it was contagious, everybody that came around me started yawning too. Monkey see, monkey do syndrome...yuk yuk. It was at least good for a chuckle. Now I take it later in the day and that works much better. The 20's haven't kicked in for me yet but I plan to stay with it as long as I can stand the anxiety. Has the Lex 20mg seemed to help you? I hope it doesn't take much longer.

Johnny, I'm definitely sticking with the 20 for at least a couple of weeks. I have a tendancy to think I know what is best for me and stop taking meds before they have full chance to kick in. I have noticed a differance, in energy/anxiety and that is why I thought of switching to am vs. pm dosing. I see my doc on Tuesday. Yesterday and today I took my 20 with lunch, because I felt the big black cloud coming down on me. I wanted to wait until tonight, because yesterday I had a very slow tired afternoon and thought it might have been from taking the Lex in the am. Anyway, stick with the 20 until you notice something different, good or bad. At least you'll find out if Lex is right for you or not. I will check in regularly and let you know how I'm reacting.
Take care and good luck!
