I know now that what I am going through is derealization, but I am feeling hopeless that it will never go away. I am convinced that the problem is a result of my doc trying new meds on me. I was fine until I started a Klonopin taper, was put on Geodon, taken off Geodon (twice), put on and taken off of Topomax and Zonegran, both of which I could not tolerate (all of this is a 30 day or less period). I am now back on the klonopin thinking this will make the derealization go away, but I have been completely off the Geodon, topomax and zonegran for 13 or 14 days and back on the klonopin for 5 days. Someone please tell this is temporary. I refuse to call my doctor for fear that we will go down another unsuccessful medication route which will make the disconnected feeling worse.

That does not sound like fun at all.
Has your pdoc been able to give you a reasonable explaination for what is happening (In other words, do you think he knows what is going on)?
I suggest that you go for a consultation with someone else (usually just a 1 visit thing - a second opinion, or more often a second perspective). You can get a name from your doctor, or find someone yourself. (I think that this would be reasonable whether you think he knows what's going on or not...)
Good Luck

I have bad DR also. I've had it for some time. All I can tell you in to keep trying things if you don't think it's goign to resolve itself. I have found soem things that have worked for at least some time. I would suggest lamictal to you as a possibility.
Best of luck and I am very sympathetic to your situation.

> I know now that what I am going through is derealization,
How does derealization feel? Is it when you know things are there, people are talking, but your inner state is drowning them out? Everything seems *wrong*? You feel large and intrusive, but you can't keep your attention on the outside world? You know you are there, and they are there, but the link is tenuous?
Or is that something else?

Sarah, Please talk to me! I have been EXACTLY where you are not too long ago (2 months ago to be exact) and know that GEODONE was pure hell for me personally. My doc (at the time) tried many, many drugs on me during a hospital stay and I was a mess. I am slowly feeling better. I hope you will too. Please if you have any questions, I am here for you. Have you been diagnosed? What else, if anything are you feeling? When you started the Klonopin taper-what happened? How did you start to feel physically AND mentally?
Now that you are back on the Klonopin, what dosage are you at?I really hope to hear back from you, want to try to help, please hang in there.

Gal, thank you for your response. I would love to talk to you more about what you went through. I am glad that you are feeling better. The withdrawl from the Klonopin took 3 months, but it only lasted a week or so and I had to go back on it. I am not up to old dose of 3mg, but rather .5 mg. The withdrawl was just like I had experienced with alcohol. Cramps, sweats, anxiety, etc... The geodon withdrawl was different and I know in my heart that the derealizaiton was caused by coming off the geodon. I had read that zinc and b-complex was good for derealization. I started taking it 3 days ago and the derealization has subsided. I never would have believed that vitamins would be the answer, but I am a believer now. I would love to hear from you.

Please, please, please tell us exactly how much of and how often you take these vitamins. Also, did a doctor approve this? I'm asking this b/c a nutritionist said that large amount of zinc can be toxic. Please respond ASAP - every second of this condition is torture.
